This beer was served properly at the West location. That made an impression at least. The first taste was nice with a fairly good look to the beer. I'm not sure what happened after that though... it just went away. No flavor/head/anything was left after the first drink. It wasn't offensive, just non-exsistent. I love the fact that Upstream does seasonals and some have been pretty good... this one is, unfortunately not one of them. I do appreciate the effort!

From notes
Served in a standard pint glass; I must say, shame on them. Clear, yellow in hue, it looks dead. This is supposed to be unfiltered! It was served with a white head, one finger in height and then it quickly faded to a soapy collar, naked in the middle. Rigor mortis has set in. There was some spotty lacing but not enough for a Belgian-style beer. The appearance is poor; I dont think proper glassware would have spruced this one up. I mean a clear yellow Saison wtf?
The nose is hampered by the coldness it was served. I dont smell much of anything. After a few moments I could smell a light orangey-wheaty-yeasty-spicy aroma. Umm this is not what a Saison should smell like. This will not be confused with Fantome hell; this will not be confused with Hennepin (which is damn good in its own right but is a product of the US of A). The nose is poor; it lacks articulation and meaning. It is not inviting.
The palate has the same orangey-wheaty-yeasty-spicy thing that was found in the nose. This is a poor, poor Saison really, is this a Saison? Where is the tartness? Where is the herbalness? It needs to be much spicier and deeper. There should be some bitterness/raw earthiness but there wasnt even a hint. I am not impressed at all, in fact, I am deeply disappointed and I have to seriously consider the fact that Upstream is nothing more than an average brewpub when it comes to its seasonal beer.
Medium in body, low carbonation, the mouthfeel is very dull. Flat. Yawn.
I had one glass that should be proof this beer is a major dud. I love Saison; it is my favorite Belgian-style beer. If you enjoy the style just save your money and time and skip this one. My sample was consumed downtown.
