Fairly basic IPA. Weak for the style.Tasted a bit thin, There is some citrus orange taste, but it is watered down in taste. Fresh bottle from Champane's Cellars. Not all that drinkable. Pours lots of foam on an orange tinged body. May be good for cooking.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle(cute/sexy chick on the label)into an English "pot" pint glass.
Deep apricot in color, with a big billowy/rocky head of foam. Nice.
Aroma-Toasted malt, floral hop note
Taste-Fruity hops, solid malt backbone, citrus-peel hop bitterness, dry finish. Understated and pleasant in the English IPA tradition. Pretty decent, and the best of the bunch so far out of a sampler six-pack.

Appearance: This beer pours a beautiful copper color with a nice small white head that barely hangs on through the drinking experience. The beer is a little cloudy.

Smell: A slight caramel aroma very little discernable hops.

Taste: A slight sweet caramel flavor with which the bitterness of the hops cut through like a knife. Like the aroma there is very little hops flavor other than the bitterness

Mouthfeel: Solid beer with decent carbonation.

Overall: A good solid beer.

A: Almost amber red with a small sudsy quickly receding head. Leaves no lacing. Big bubbles on the inside of the glass, like a soda.

S: Floral hops and malts

T: Sharp bitterness followed by a plain amber hoppy flavor.

M: Big bubbled carbonation, leaves a coat of bitterness in the mouth.

O: This is an average IPA all around. I've never been much of a fan of highly carbonated IPAs and this one is definitely gassy... may cause uncomfortable social situations.

This beer is awful. I bought a six pack because I heard it was near my house. I'm throwing it out right now. It tastes like a sour Bud Light. So in that sense, it tastes like the piss from a horse that drank old milk. Don't waste your time with Schomhz. Go to Founders.

This beer pours out to a dark golden brownish color with a thin white head that has poor retention and good lacing. The smell is grapefruit, some grains, and kiwi. The taste is a strong grapefruit to start out followed by some floral hops than it has an acidic metallic soapy taste to it, and has a horrible soapy after taste to it. I felt like I was drinking some citrus scented dawn instead of a good beer. I like supporting Michigan brewers, but only ones like Bell's, New Holland and others that do a good job. Sorry Schmohz but until you guys can prove you're capable of making a good beer I will not be buying your products.

Presentation: Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into an Imperial pint glass. Label is a sticker which seems to depict a hula dancing Caucasian woman. No freshness date.

Appearance: Pours with 1 finger of light tan head. This settles quickly to a thin almost complete layer of foam leaving behind nice lacing coverage. The beer itself is medium amber and slightly cloudy. Much sediment remains int eh bottle. I have learned my lesson on previous beers and not poured the last few ounces into the glass. Maybe the description should read poured from a 10 oz brown bottle?

Smell: Very mild smell that is difficult to discern any distinct aromas. Mild unpleasant aroma of rotting gourds.

Taste: Overwhelmingly tart flavor all but obliterates every other flavor. Unless this is a secret sour, I would say this bottle is infected.

Mouthfeel: Average carbonation level. Body is decent.

Drinkability: This beer and this brewery are pretty fly by night. I had a six pack and think only one of the beers was tolerable. At least two were sour and infected and all were off the mark on style. Do yourself a favor and skip this brewery entirely.

$7.99 as part of a mixed six pack. Brewed with East Kent Goldings per the website. 6.2% ABV. Pours out to a cloudy dark amber (quite dark for an IPA), forming a soapy yellow head with poor retention and good lacing. Carbonation is brisk. The aroma is of kitric hops, grapefruit, amber grain husk, and kiwi fruit. The mouthfeel is tart with a medium body. the taste opens with the grapefruit, and is quickly replaced by green kiwi fruit which blends into acrid metallic acidity, like copper pennies in citric acid. Appears to be infected like the other bottles in this mixed 6'er. The aftertaste is metallic and moderately bitter.

Horrible. A drain pour. This is the 5th bottle out of this 6 pack that has sterility issues. I would not buy from these guys again.

Poured from bottle to a pint glass.
AP - Dark orange/copper color. Light CO2 leaves a 2 finger head that laces the glass in rings.
AR - Malty w/light hop essence and hoppy follow.
FL - Light biscuit malt flavor. Hops dance lightly on your tounge to complement the malt with a light citrus undertone.
MF - Medium body with slght stab of hops.
D - An easy drinking IPA that will let you go 3 or 4 deep.

My buddy Rob brought back a bottle of this IPA to taste after a trip to Michigan! 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass...

Appearance- Hazy (on lees), deep orange brew with an enormous frothy, light beige, 3 finger head billowing up from a soft pour. Seems to be quite effervescent. 1 finger lingers and leaves a kiss of lace in the glass.

Aroma- Soft warm malty notes with loads of floral, slightly pungent, grassy, lemon zest hops. A touch of yeast also noticeable. Definitely an English IPA.

Flavor- Bready, biscuit-like malt to start but quickly pushed away with prickly carbonation. A bit overcarbonated for the style (maybe its an older bottle?). Big pungent, grassy, spicy, and herbal hop flavors push through CO2 bringing with them heavy bitterness into the middle/finish, and linger on the palate. Some caramel and yeasty flavors detectable, but very much in the backseat. Some alcoholic warmth noticeable, especially as brew warms.

Mouthfeel- High/prickly CO2, medium bodied, hop bitterness and flavor front and center. Some warmth. Decent balancing malt, but could use more to back up the hops in this brew. Big long-lasting hop finish. Bit dry, with minimal residual sugars.

Overall- Not bad for an English IPA. I could definitely drink a few of these, and have mad respect for Schmohz for rocking the English IPA instead of a drippy citrusy American version of the style. I would definitely be interested in trying some of the other brews that Schmohz has to offer.

Pours a orange/amber color with a thin off-white head that diminishes to a spotty halo atop the liquid. No visible carbonation to speak of. Good rings of lace all the way down.

Sour, astringent citrus notes that collide and pierce. I swirl my stemmed tulip glass to try and get more, but there's really nothing else there. Very 'thin' smelling.

Flavor is initially bitter and sharp hops with an anemic (almost 'no') malt flavor to speak of. Flavor/s fall off right after the initial quaff. The hop bitterness is redeeming though.

Mouthfeel is watery, thin and a tad past light bodied. Almost no carbonation, which may be intentional due to the style.

Drinkability is poor. I doubt I'll finish my 12 oz. serving.

Overall a very sour and poor example of the style. I was expecting some malt backbone seeing it's supposed to be an English IPA, but didn't get anything. Probably the first IPA to come out of Grand rapids, MI that I definitely wouldn't buy/try again.

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle.

Pours a cloudy yellow-brown. The aroma is strong malt with just a little hop presence. The flavor is pretty bitter, but there is not much hop flavor outside of a little grassiness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle. A clear dark amber color body with a small frothy white head , a nice ring of lace left behind , lots of big carbonation bubbles . Aroma of light pine resin and a hint of cloves ? . Flavor of some fruit , maybe apple skins piny hops and a good but slightly dusty pale malt. clean , but slightly watery mouthfeel ,light body , light bitterness with a nice little hoppy finish . Quite sessionable and pretty good . I am finding that I seem to favor Schmohz bottled offerings more than from a growler , nice to see this stuff at my local beer store , a nice local option for drinking.

A- A nice hazy orange liquid with a thin and slightly creamy white head and some nice lacing.

S- Cooked vegetables, apple juice, and a bit of biscuity malt. The apple juice aroma is really strong actually.

T- Surprisingly mild and tastes really homebrewed. The cooked vegetables and apple juice are there, as is a slight floral aspect.

M- There is a lasting bitterness to it. About right.

D- I am just not really impressed with this. There are so many better choices out there for an IPA. I wanted to like it, but... I didn't...

Pours a cloudy amber color with white head and rings of lacing. Nice, but average.

Smell is very light and fruity, lots of unexpected banana. Interesting.

Taste is very bitter, a little buttery, with a pleasant strong malt in the back. More of a bitter amber than an IPA. The aftertaste becomes quite vegetable-y and unappealing.

Mouthfeel is good, strong carbonation enhances the bitterness.

Drinkability is decent, the aftertaste is unfortunate.

Overall, not bad, I'll seek out this brewery again.

A friend brought this back for me when she went to MI

Poured into an Imperial pint like any IPA should and it had a good amber color but the head disappeared and the lacing didn't stick around for the party. Big malty smell up front and slight hop, would like to see more hoppy presence. Quite different than the American versions I'm used to. The feel was a bit drier and more bitter than what I'm used to, but had good carbonation. With slight changes this could be a very drinkable IPA.

On-tap poured into a pint glass.

A- The body was a golden-copper color. There wasn't a whole lot in the way of a head, but it had a nice lacing that left decent sticky spots on the glass.

S- Mostly floral hops with some sweeter tones from the malts.

T- The hopping made for a kind of harsh flavor. It's possible to really hop a beer and still come out with some soft flavors. The hops in this one ended up with more a bitter flavor than anything else. Malt sweetness was there, but took somewhat of a backseat to the hops.

M- Lots of hop bite with medium carbonation.

D- It was a serviceable beer. Just not a lot to it to make me crave another.
