The beer is clear red amber colored, an off-white head leaving some lacing.
The smell is of sweet raisins, somewhat flowery.
Taste of caramel malt, sweet and a good bitterness that lingers around.
Medium carbonation, small bubbles a creamy feeling.
A well balanced and good ESB.

500 ml bottle, as Ushers Founders English Ale, bought at Systembolaget, Sweden. ABV is 4.7%. Amber to copper colour, big to moderate off-white head. Aroma of berries and malts, hints of caramel. The flavour is fruity with notes of malts and toffee, hints of nuts. Surprisingly sweet for a bitter. There is a noticeable hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. Not bad.

Appearance: Pours a red/ruddy color, clear, with a nice tan head. Little retention, but nice lacing.
Smell: Rich and malty, with roasty and sweet caramel notes. Herbal and spicy hops beneath.
Taste: Toasty and roasty malts, with some caramel sweetness on the middle, on a backbone of earthy English hops. Not bad. Balanced, but tilted toward malt. Slightly nutty as it warms.
Mouthfeel: Light-medium body, good carbonation. Clean finish, unobjectionable aftertaste.
Drinkability: A nice malt-focused English beer, sessionable at 4.7% abv, but could be quite filling.

Purchased at the Sainsbury's, at half-price (91pence)~~ BB 03/07/08, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.
A: dark amber in colour, coming with a rather puffy layer of off-white foam with reasonable retention; slightly hyper-carbonated, with large bubbles ejecting like rockets...
S: the resiny, spicy and a little earthy-stinky edge of English hops comes round the malty theme, on a par with light touches of citrus-fruitiness and a lightly toasted malty aroma, while a sour-sweet edge of yeasts as well as burned sugar stays quietly at the fringe. A good swirl reveals biscuits and floral notes. Overall quite traditional and nice.
T: the distinct, crisp biscuity+toasty maltiness is skirted by a mild floral-hop aroma, while the roast-tea-ish and spicy hoppyness slowly gears up in aroma and bitterness, turning intensively dryish-bitter down the rear wings of the tongue; the dryish finish has more tannic hops to chew, along with residual bits of bitter-sweet nuttiness, faintly berry-ish and lightly citrussy undernote.
M&D: the mouthfeel is better than the appearance suggests, just lightly carbonated and not OTT; medium-minus bodied for a 4.7% Premium Bitter, this ale has a long and deepening bitter elements to make it a quaffable pint of bitter, but somehow the balance is not retained on the palate. Not too bad, though!

Poured a nice deep coppery orange colour. Slightly off white head poured nice and thick and meringue like then faded slowly to a decent light covering.. barely any carbonation.... some very light patchy lacing..
Aroma - Quite a lot of resiny hop notes, spicy / juicy fruits (oranges, apples and some pears), toasted biscuity maltiness, light caramel sweetness, some woody / nutty notes, earthy / cardboard traces, some saltiness, floral notes...
Taste Quite strong peppery / spicy hop bitterness which is maybe a little on the harsh side... toasted biscuity maltiness, burnt caramel / toffee sweetness, spicy bitter fruits (oranges, apples, some figs), light medicinal notes, strong floral / perfume hints, some burnt butter notes..
Feel - Pretty sharp and dry... light / medium bodied...a pretty sessionable brew at just 4.7% although the slightly harsh bitterness might become too much after a while..
Overall - An average ESB.. The harsh bitterness could do with some more malts to balance things out... worth a try once..

The colour is medium deep copper; the rather airy pale beige foam is two finger thick. Looks like a classic ale to me.
The smell is fresh and a bit chemical, I noted some hops, both bitter and aroma. It is a bit roasted with sweetness and a slight metallic finish
The carbonation is good; maybe the bubbles are a little too small
The taste could be summarized in A good no-nonsense English ale: A mild somewhat sweet a fruity, flowery touch develops into a large balanced bitterness with a slightly roasted touch. A dry bitterness and some sweet-burned malt dominate the long aftertaste.
This is a great everyday ale!
