On tap, this hefe- probably is underrated; but it also will never be great.
It has unpromising Looks and Smells, but improves as it enters the mouth and stays there as it is pleasant and soft.
Had with pizza for lunch and was suitable.

My first from Anacortes; so I went on their website and it hit all the Northwest notes of local sourcing, the sea, sustainability, a family restaurant by the sea and the NW attitude that "we are all in this together, but we are separate from the nation." (Or words to that affect.)

Served On-Tap

A — Pours a hazy and bright yellow color into the glass. There is a bit of a light white colored head that forms and leaves behind some OK lacing.

S — Smells of banana and spice, little bit of clove and some maltiness.

T — Lots of banana and a bit of spice, pretty sweet and rich overall, dominated by banana and sweetness.

M — Medium bodied, perhaps a bit thin and undercarbed.

O — OK overall, really sweet and fairly unbalanced.

This a combined review of a glass I had at the brewery the other day and a growler I opened a couple days later. The beer poured a cloudy golden-yellow color with a nice, tall, fluffy, white head that had great retention and minimal lacing.

The aroma is strongly banana and clove, moreso than a lot of the more widely known examples of the style. The taste is very near the top of all the hefe's I've had, lots of bold flavors without being obnoxious.

The body is very good for such a light style. Drinkability is top-notch, these go down smooth and easy whether you're having 1 or 6.

Overall, a wonderful beer. Not only is this one of my favorite Hefe's, it's one the beers I look forward to every year from this great little brewery. Worth some effort to try.

Guest tap at Flyer's brewpub.

A: Yellow-straw, slight haze, some retention, excellent lace.

S: Banana, bread, spice, light pineapple.

T: Tripical fruit, cloves & bread. All the right flavours, but certainly subtle.

M: Light to moderate body, moderate carbonation, well-attenuated, dry finish.

This was my go to drink along with the Wit during a great evening at the Rockfish. The Hefe is pretty well made with lots of banana and cloves coming to the fore. The finish was semi-sweet with a nice mouthfeel. I think the Wit is slightly better but this still very well done.

Appearance – This weizen poured a cloudy yellow in color with a tinge of orange. The smallish head was very out of place for the style.

Smell – The big, huge, brown bananas just dominated the nose. I picked up a faint hint of wheat and grain but mostly this was just banana beer.

Taste – The big bananas from the nose took over at the taste as well. There’s some grain in here but no wheat at all.

Mouthfeel – This light to medium-bodied beer was unbalanced and lacked the fluffy carbonation of a good Hefe Weizen.

Drinkability – This is a very difficult style to pull off, especially at a small brewpub. They nailed the Witbier though so I’m sure a good Hefe from Anacortes is just around the corner.
