Flavorful, good roasted coffee malt. Slight barbecue flavor. A little buttery. Robust for sure. Aromatic. Chocolatey. Dark brown w beige head. Moderate sweetness.

22oz bomber from Trader Joe's for $5
I was really impressed with this beer. Great coffee aroma, and chocolate and roasted and coffee i the flavor. Not as good as Lagunitas' cappuccino Stout, but pretty close.

Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Clear 14.75-oz. porter/stout tulip
From: Trader Joe’s in La Mesa, Calif.
Price: $4.99
Purchased: April 7, 2017
Consumed: April 12, 2017
Reviewed as: American Stout
Misc.: Best before July 20, 2017
Picked this one up on a recent trip to Trader Joe’s along with seven other new beers to try and a six-pack of a Port beer. Saw one of these in a previous visit, but did not pull the trigger. Did for sure the next visit. Had high hopes as I generraly enjoy the Mission St. beers, regardless of who brews them.
Poured a black color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki-tan frothy head. Very light bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Outstanding sporadic foamy lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled black coffee, roasted coffee beans, char wood, ashtray, anise, black licorice, bitter dark chocolate, hints of vanilla, dark cocoa powder and espresso. (Smell - 3.75)
Taste was a little better than the nose. Not as smoky, but still got roasted coffee, espresso, char wood, anise, black licorice, bitter dark chocolate, dark cocoa powder and sticky molasses. The 8.1 pct. ABV is well hidden. (Taste - 3.75)
Full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, roasty finish. (Feel - 4.00)
Boy, that sure is a coffee stout. Liked it overall though, especially for $4.99. (Overall - 3.75)

A $4.00 bomber from Trader Joe's. I like Mission St. Brown Ale, certainly steps above Boatswain, so take a chance. I like coffee stouts.
A careful pour gets you a quarter-inch head that's even and fleeting. Lacing on the glass nevertheless. Pours quite black. And the aroma is coffee and chocolate. Bit of dark fruit in there. Quite good and rich.
Taste is less, but still very much strong iced coffee, bitter chocolate, a hint of smoke and hops. Bit of roast, marshmallow, and a slight fake sweetener taste in the finish. Finish goes to a slight metal. Maybe the alcohol, not properly balanced out.
I'm liking this less and less the more I drink. Thin feel, lack of chewiness or nuance; I feel like this adjunct'd coffee almost a fault. Like cheap coffee ice cream.

Taste: Robust dark chocolate malts, toasted coffee beans, semi sweet, molasses. Nice spiced malty, coffee nose. Black, opaque, tall tan foamy head with a ringed lattice of lace. Medium/full body. Dessert stout.

$4.00 Trader Joe's special and worth it. A little on the thin side, but this coffee stout delivers on the coffee flavors but less on the stout side. Sweet, roasty and bitter, it's like drinking a glass of iced coffee with cream. Worth a pickup, certainly at the price. Just stay away from Boatswain.

This is a straight forward coffee stout that the masses will appreciate. Pours dark brown, cola like with niece head that settles out fairly well. Aroma is coffee dominate with some roasted malt and a faint cocoa that is guess in the nose and confirmed by the taste. Taste is sweet, mild coffee flavor with chocolate and roasted malt. Reminiscent of coffee ice cream thanks to the think body and sweetness. Not a bad showing for Trader Joe's. Pretty simple and safe.

Poured into tulip glass @ 50 degrees. Three fingers of head .
Strong coffee on nose. Not much else.
Taste is cold pressed coffee. Not much beer flavor. No hop bitterness or flavor.
I like it but prefer a more complex stout.
