On tap at the brewery pub. Have been waiting and hoping to try this one for some time (ever since I learned Caldera planned to make a BA version of their popular coconut chocolate porter.
The beer pours a blackish brown color with fairly decent lacing and good head retention. On the nose.... yowza! I'm a big fan of the regular version of this beer, and the BA version retains all the vanilla, chocolate and coconut one gets in that version, but with considerable bourbon and light leather/tobacco as well. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely, and I'm just amazed that the brewer could make a BA beer this rich, yet still keep the alcohol at a reasonable level (the bartender indicated the BA version might have a smidge more alcohol, but that's all). Mouthfeel is the only place where you tell this is not a huge, high abv. monster, but even so, I wouldn't call the mouthfeel in this beer thin. The beer is otherwise quite smooth on the palate, and the finish is long and chocolate/coconut infused. Alcohol is barely noticeable, though given the amount of bourbon character I'm getting, it's really hard to believe the abv. isn't higher.
Just delicious, and a beer I appreciated more and more as it warmed up in my glass. Yummy!!!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
