I've had several fresh hop beers in the past month (as well as in previous years), and this one is unusual. It's a copper colored beer that seems more like a hoppy amber than a pale ale. It's pretty malty. It's hoppy, but not at all like all the other fresh hop beers I've had. It's got no fresh hop character at all. In fact, I asked the Caldera waitress whether I'd been served the wrong beer. She assured me that I got what I ordered, but agreed that it wasn't like a typical pale ale.
So if you are looking for a hoppy amber, this is a pretty good beer. But if you're looking for a pale ale or fresh hops, look elsewhere.
