A- This beer pours a dark brown, almost black color that is rich in texture....it looks thick-ish! The head starts out about one finger in thickness and settles rather quickly into a foamy ring around the glass....this is caramel in color. Carbonation looks fine and plentiful while the lacing is quite nice, with stouty patches clinging to the side of the glass and ever so slowly drifting back into the brew.

S- Sweet rum & black forest cake! Awesome! There is super heavy aromas of chocolate, both milk and dark, robust toffee/molasses sweetness, cherry vanilla spice, Hong Kong style coffee.....this is simply GUSTO INTENSO on the nostrils....smells like grandma just took a devils food cake straight outta the oven! One of the nicest scented beers that I've ever come across!

T- Flavors heavily follow the aromas, with heavy chocolate bar flavors, Tootsie Roll/English toffee sweetness, toasty black malts, cherry vanilla oaked spice, semi dark roast coffee with loads of cream, yeasty cake and the finish has a subtle hop bitterness that cleanses the palate....very different and awesome flavors!

M/O- Medium bodied and the carbonation is rather robust, but used wee tight bubbles in the Co2 processing! This is most definitely a creamy dessert beer and the booze is very well hidden for something as high in alcohol content as this is. Very highly drinkable and I'm afraid of what may happen when I decide to buy this again....more than one I imagine!! Highly recommended!!

Looked and smelled great. Tasted like a chocolate bar in a glass.
Which is great when you want chocolate and beer. But as for drinkability, one goes a long way.

355ml bottle, day 12 of the Craft Beer Advent Calendar - I didn't know that Craft represented Flying Monkeys out west.

This beer pours a solid black, with prominent basal cola edges, and three fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy beige head, which leaves a bit of fallen branch pile lace in places around the glass as it very slowly sinks out of sight.

It smells of rich milk chocolate, melted vanilla ice cream, a heady caramel malt, some further English toffee sweetness, and a tame earthy and leafy bitterness. The taste is bittersweet cocoa, vanilla extract, biscuity caramel malt, boozy toffee candies, some of those crystalline fruit thingies that abound in desserts this time of year, and an earnest earthy, weedy, and lightly perfumed floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly adequate in keeping this one sane via its genial frothiness, the body a solid medium-heavy weight, and mostly smooth, with a decent creaminess improving as things warm up a tad. It finishes still trending sweet, but moderated almost enough by a latent roast and some lingering fruity tartness.

Overall, a nicely Yuletide-oriented chocolate stout, as the perception of those varied fruity characters definitely helps take the edge off of the initially overwrought cocoa. Easy to drink, even with the north of 15-proof alcohol quotient, this one should be sipped in lieu of, or indulgently with, some kind of seasonal confection.

very easy drinkability, smooth and goes down easy. Is definitely on the sweet side with really big caramel and chocolate flavours. reminds me of a rolo!

Heavy chocolatey stout, pours black with a medium coffee-tinged head. The mouth feel is quite pleasant, fairly heavy and rich. However, I found the smell and taste unpleasant. Too sweet, maybe, and has the flavor of penicillin. I couldn't drink the whole thing - poured out the last third. Won't be buying more.

355 ml bottle.

A: Dark brown. Full of foam, moderate retention.
S: A lot of chocolate. Hazelnut syrup. Lactose. Overall it smells like sweet chocolate candy bar.
T: Medium chocolate. Some hazelnut. Moderate sweetness despite the aroma indicates it should be very sweet. Low bitterness. Cocoa milk aftertaste.
M: Medium body. Smooth carbonation.
O: Obviously artificial aroma and flavor. People will hate it or love it, but won't be the middle. I personally enjoy this creation so much, love it.

Pours a deep black body with ruby tint and creme coloured head, very similar to Guinness. The scent is almost all chocolate, and very rich like a truffle, and not at all like beer. The taste is again all chocolate, no beer, like a liquid cake. Following that is a strong chocolate aftertaste. I personally can't grasp that dessert-like flavour, and don't enjoy it.

Oh me oh my. This is a rich experience indeed. It is black, with a very faint and rapidly disappearing head. The odour is decadent indeed - plenty of chocolate and vanilla abound. It is not overly sweet - just enough to match the festive nature of the season. I love when a beer lingers in your mouth, and that is precisely what happens with the cocoa and mild toffee flavours. This is my first encounter with the Flying Monkeys, and I do believe I will be back!

Day 12 of the Craft Beer Advent Calendar.

L: Black, with a nice brown white head on the top.

S: Chocolate and sweet dark chocolate, lots of malts off the nose and not a lot of hop presence.

T: Tastes like a London chocolate and it has a slight hop taste on the end with a slight bitterness.

F: Full mouth feel but a lighter body doesn't taste like 8%

O: A very nice beer by this brewery, I enjoy all there beers even though they are very strange brewery haha

Deep black with a light head that quickly dissipates into a foam around the edges. Smells of rich dark chocolate with coffee and alcohol. Reminds me of coffee and baileys. Tastes earthy and enhances the chocolate flavour. Dry mouth feel with low carbonation and slightly stringent. Coarse and leaves your mouth dry between quaffs. Overall an interesting brew, I'm interested to try some more flying monkey.
