Belle of the Barrels pours well, a light mahogany color with a small but persistent head. Things go a little wrong from here. The smell is overpowered by the Bordeaux barrels. It was nearly impossible to get any other notes because of the heavy barrel presence. What could be picked up was a touch of yeast. The flavor was again overpowered by the Bordeaux barrel profile. It was closer to drinking a glass of red wine than it was to drinking a beer in my opinion. There was good carbonation and a medium feel.
This beer just went sideways. Flying Monkeys does have the habit of overdoing things (IMHO), and in this case, they overdid the barrel for this. When having a beer you should always be able to realize you are having a beer. With this, it felt like I was having a glass of wine.

Rather hard to drink. Boozy though bigger mouthfeel. Only Cafe.
