Smooth and dark but I expected more from this brewer ... A bit thin for the style and I'm trying to place the aftertaste and/or finish ... Good, not great

16 ounce bottle, Dec 14 2017 stamped on the bottle which I assume is the bottled on date. It's annoying when companies use black ink to date stamp a bottle, especially when it's a porter or stout because you can't read the date very well (if at all) until after you pour the beer out of the bottle. Served in a chalice, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, bergamot/Earl Grey tea, coffee, vanilla, and some graininess. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some cream and bittersweet chocolate flavors noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit slick and creamy with a good amount of carbonation. Wish I would have been able to drink this one fresher, but I still thought this was a good overall brew. Worth a try if you like porters and stouts, and also for people who like Earl Grey tea. I'd like to try this one again! $3.99 a bottle.

16 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/14/2017. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, earl grey tea, mint, orange, lemon, lime, citrus zest, nuttiness, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light notes of dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aroma with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and earl grey tea notes; with solid strength. Taste of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, earl grey tea, mint, orange, lemon, lime, citrus zest, nuttiness, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light notes of dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Very mild herbal/grassy spice and roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, earl grey tea, mint, orange, lemon, lime, citrus zest, nuttiness, toasted dark/brown bread, light smoke/char, herbal, floral, grass, yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and earl grey tea flavors; with a nice roast/tea bitter/sweet balance; and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering spice/roast dryness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 6.4%. Overall this is a delicious spiced American porter. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and earl grey tea flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Great well rounded porter malt complexity; with big presence of the citrusy/earthy tea flavors, but never overwhelming. A very enjoyable and unique offering. Never had anything like it before. Very well made for the base style.

from the big bottle in a snifter. This unique ale pours a muddled brownish black with
a nice brown foam that settles to a thick ring, thin light pool, and shows some nice light
lacing. Nose of heavy chocolate, woodsy earthy malts, dark coffee, and subtle cream notes.
Flavors exceed the nose with a lightly char touched earthy malt drenched in dark coffee and
cream notes with a touch of vanilla and cola with touches of dark fruits. Mouth feel is medium
high carbonation making it drink more like a soda pop, medium mouth feel, and a rich chocolate
ridden roasted finish.
Overall, a solid brew.
Cheers
