Born of patience and the beautiful inexactitude time, our solera program nurtures the divine in each unique barrel coaxing them to share the immortality of their spirits. Aged from two to eight years in Andalusian sherry and brandy barrels, Jamaican rum barrels, American bourbon barrels, and Niagara Ice Wine Barrels.

473 ml bottle purchased from Flying Monkeys in Barrie, Ontario in 2021 - 2012 Vintage - ~$30 CDN.
Pours a dark brown with some mild garnet highlights - scant dark tan head that disappears quickly.
Aroma is an explosion of caramel, toffee, dates and dark fruits; brown sugar and vanilla with a sherry boozy note - very appealing.
The palate is hit with sweet and boozy caramel and dark fruits, raisin bread pudding, brown sugar and vanilla, oak and bourbon, sherry - slightly earthy and smoky and certainly some boozy warmth.
Full smooth mouthfeel with light but not absent carbonation and a sweet warming boozy finish.

After the absolutely mind blowing Invictus this 30 dollar cellar aged beer has a lot of work to do. 2012 vintage purchased and opened in 2024 so 12 years of aging? Wow
Nose - the aging is believable. Dirty dried out raisins followed by figs, rum, brown sugar, light oak, vanillas, and frankly just flat out 20 year old sherry notes coming to life here. Even some dark fruits hinting on an aged port. A second nosing brings out some ginger bread and baked apple pie crust.
Taste - old aged caramel. Light smoked toffee. Brown sugar/rum soaked apples. Rich brandy notes are now comigng out? What is this age in?
Bourbon, Sherry, Rum, and Brandy...well ok that explains all these confusing notes.
Starting to get some coffee and hints of creme brulee. Really nice. Just imagine a really rich sherry or brandy with good oak notes and a caramel malt glaze over it all. There's also a bit of a nut on the finish as well.
Just a wonderful sipper. Shame the abv is so high as this flavor is wonderful and I wish I could have a few bottles in a night, but that's simply impossible.

Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a small brown foamy head with limited retention and minor lacing. Aroma of deeply caramelized malt with some toffee notes with some dates and figs notes with Xeres barrel notes with some residual sugar notes. Taste is also a mix of caramelized malt notes and some dates and figs notes and Xeres notes with quite a bit of residual sugar and some cardboard notes. Body is pretty full with light carbonation with some warming alcohol notes. Enjoyable barleywine but a little bit too sweet for my taste.

Unfortunately this will not be a good review.
I picked up 2x 473mL bottles for 30$ each 2012 vintage. Hoped for the best based in the age.
The bottle says that the barleywine is aged in 4 different barrels which typically doesn’t end well from my experience but I was hoping.
The first pour is pitch black with great lacing. The smell is nice. boozy and inviting. The taste is not what you want in a barleywine.
Flavors are not complimentary. The barrel aging clashes horribly and the booze overpowers the base beer. I wonder if the earlier vintages were smoother but this one simply has to go down the drain.
No saving this one, even to share.
I cant recommend this one.
My favorite style is barelywine and there’s nothing to try here.
Avoid with confidence.
