Black with brown notes, one finger of tight white head, disaptes quickly to the edges, spots of lace are present. Smell is of maple, malty, roasty but not what I was expecting but good, caramel and hints of vanilla round out the nose. Taste is maple up front, spicy notes are present, smoky, roast malt comes out in the finish and the alcohol is quite tame for 14.5 but gets a little more boozy as it warms. Medium mouthfeel, nice light carbonation, fairly smooth, light at times. Drinks pretty well, ABV is detectable but not overpowering, interesting stuff here. Once they tighten this one up it will be top notch.

Pours a dark red, with hints of mahogany and ruby red hues. A small collar and some bubbles is generated by the pour, the thinnest lacing is left. Nose has some maple, dark fruits and milder dark berries (some black cherry) and alcohol soaked fruits (albeit very mild on the alcohol). Some syrupy notes, and leads me to liken this to a dark berry jam of sorts. One can taste the viscosity of this brew before any flavour comes through, as it crawls over the tongue. Dense alcohol soaked fruits again, a dark fruit jam comes to mind again. Rich caramel and milder maple notes, some hop character comes through near the end of the serving. Mouthfeel is syrupy and sticky, and the sweetness just avoids being cloying. Relatively big alcohol at the end of each sip and coats the throat, become significantly more noticable with warmth. Low carbonation, although appropriate. A sipper on any other day, but I found that I plowed right through this glass. Very enjoyable and an interesting high alcohol experiment.
