Copper and filtered with almost no carbonation, and 2 fingers of light beige head.

Smells of red liquorice and oranges, its light and fruity with toasted notes.

The taste totally follows the nose, and ends with a biscuity, slightly sweet, toasted note, crackers with strawberry cream cheese.

Light body, with little carbonation.

Got this in Ontario, drinking it Nov 21st in New Hamburg. Really good, solid, drinkable beer that would pair well with a lot of kinds of food.

Wonderfully floral and citrusy, the Flying Monkey brewers tread on the beaten waters that flow from the Irish red ale and have undertaken the common Americanized twist: a simplified caramel malt taste, elevated dryness and alcohol and with a noticeable pacific northwest hop bite.

Slightly hazed and frothily headed, the gentle amber hues are true to the style's namesake. While and undercurrent of caramel exists, overtones of citrus, floral and perfumy fragrance waft playfully above. Yet to taste, its the caramelized malt flavors that greet the initial palate with a friendly disposition.

The middle palate brings a balanced taste as the caramel sweetness begins to weaken and the more toasty, nutty and savory malt flavors steer closely behind. What once was floral and perfumy has developed into a citrusy taste of pink grapefruit, ripe orange, and a tropical sense of apricot and pineapple. An eventual tide of pinecone and citrus pith outlasts the malt late to give the ale a stern and bitter grip.

As the ale closes, it does so with a hop tilt, but balanced taste. Medium-bodied throughout, a late turn to dry nuttiness and hoppiness closes the session with soft pine resins and a linger of citrus peel.

355ml bottle. Couldn't find freshness date. Poured into tulip.

A: Hazy light amber. No head!?
S: Light sweet grainy.
T: Caramel. Somewhat sweet imaging. Dry finish. A bit watery.
M: Light bodied.
O: Given that I enjoyed their IPAs, I gave it very high expectation. However, this amber is pretty disappointing. Probably the flavors have eased because of aging. The hops/malts character are both lower than standard.
