Basically jet black, lighter brown at the edges, ring of creamy darker tan head, light lace. Smell is full of big roasted malts, bit of sweet sugar no doubt from the added candi sugars, bit of hop but still quite retrained, liquorice, anise, lots of bittersweet chocolate and a bit of coffee with a bit of alcohol. Taste is full of big roast, touches of smoke, giant bittersweet chocolate flavours, bit of hop and black coffee bitterness, anise, moderately sweet throughout which was a bit distracting but when this warmed it was quite nice. Light carbonation, giant chewy body, syrupy full feel. Really quite impressive, perhaps a bit sweeter than I mind but the complimenting flavours make up for that, great feel and very drinkable.
