BB 18/07/09, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass. Notes: this beer came from the only batch brwed by the Head Brewer in December 2007, "conditioned in the Brewery for over a month and then bottled with live yeast".
A: a dark brown-ish amber hue with great clarity comes with mild and constant carbonation and a semi-creamy dark beige froth that lasts exceptionally well - marvellous for a RAIB.
S: an enticing smell mixed of honey-ish malts, longan-fruit tea, caramelised sugar, a whiff of citric English hops, and really "breezy" fragrance of sweet-floral (Polianthes tuberosahops) hops is underlined by light touches of yeasts; quite light and soothing for a fruity premium bitter.
T: a semi-sweet floral and caramely malty foretaste is backed by sour raisins/dried berries, brown-sugar water, black-tea stems, faintly sour-yeasts, and a lightly-scented aftertaste of floral hops in the very end. The bitterness stays at the minimum level, serving to remind the drinker of the presence of aromatic hops.
M&D: absolutely soothing and refreshing, with abundant micro-fizz caressing the taste-buds the whole time almost like a fresh cask-conditioned ale, while the body is medium, the flavour is moderate, and the bitterness comes not as a surprise but as an intrinsic part of the body. All in all, not a stunning brew, but a superbly fruity-malty premium bitter that is worth slow sipping over pints.
