This beer is part of a commercial campaign called The Duel: For a limited time, Carsberg Sverige is selling two new beers under the experimental brand Falcon: A hefe weisen Weiss and a dry Irish stout Stout. Both beers are sold as 5% abv at restaurants and 3.5% at grocery shops. After a voting among the customers, one of the beers will become a permanent part of the Falcon assortment.
The colour is black with a wine red edge. The dark beige foam forms a slowly dissolving finger thick head. There is no lacing.
The smell is burned with notes of black coffee, cream and sweet chocolate toffee. I have experienced stouts that smell stronger
The taste is on the lighter side, but it is far from being watery: Roasted malts dominate the taste (of course). The body is OK for a 3.5%-beer. There are some notes of mild coffee, clotted cream, burned toasts and some hints of salt and liquorice. The aftertaste is salty with burned aromas.
The carbonation is rather mild with lots of small bubbles. Very quaffable.
The label says Contains barley malt. Oh, really? Anyway, the duel got an obvious winner: The Stout. In a way it is a shame since the Swedes are familiar with the stouts but arent yet convinced over the wheat beers.
