The colour is deep brown-red. The firm finger thick head is pale beige; some lacing occurs.
The smell is a bit unbalanced: Sour notes are blended with dry malt and some very anonymous bitter flavours.
As one could have expected, the body in a 3.5% dark lager isnt the most solid one around. Anyway, dry roasted malt dominates the taste. Some bitter flavours (without any personality) balance the malt. I found some dusty notes of boiled vegetables, bitter hops and creamy malt in the aftertaste, and somewhere in the background hints of a slight musty flavour. Aftertaste is slightly skunky with some sweet roasted notes and a puzzling bitterness.
Carbonation is strong, lots and lots of small bubbles. The liquid is creamy.
It is hard, but not impossible, to make a good beer at 3.5%, the strongest beer you could sell in Swedish supermarkets. I have had better, I had worse. In this case, Carlsberg Sverige seems to simply have taken the 6.9% variant and removed some of the malt and the same amount of hops. The result is an unbalanced brew with some unpleasant flavours.
