It violently exploded when I opened it losing almost half of the contents and making a big mess. I couldn't even pour it without it overfoaming. So yeah. Not off to a great start... Thankfully it tasted okay, well, at least what was left. Not much of an IPA profile, basically just a sour. Overall, not very pleased. First time I ever bought beer from this brewing company, I'll have to make a note to avoid them in the future.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Jul 3 2019 and served slightly chilled.

Pours hazy golden-blonde, topped with less than a finger of soapy, frothy white head which falls apart within two minutes' time; a thin collar is the only remnant, with no lacing at all to speak of. Its aroma is primarily tart lemon acidity, with accents of passion fruit, grapefruit and floral, earthy hops. Acid reflux comes to mind.

I'm not in love with the flavours, but somehow they combine together well enough. Lemon tartness is present from start to finish, imparting a mid-to-low level background acidity to the profile - grainy, crackery pale malts also come through, with notes of passion fruit and grapefruit developing by mid-sip. Suggestions of floral, pithy hops crop up towards the finish, but it's the lemony (lactic?) acidity that continues to dominate, only fading into the aftertaste. Medium in body, with moderate carbonation levels that provide a slight crispness to this brew's generally smooth, fulfilling texture. Pretty drinkable for what it is.

Final Grade: 3.70, a respectable B grade. Definitely more sour than IPA, Nickel Brook's ZAP! was a good quaff, I suppose - I neither loved nor hated it, though I do think it'd be better served by leaving the 'IPA' part out and just marketing it as a straight-up sour ale. Either that, or dry hop it and call it a DHS. If you're a hophead that doesn't appreciate sours then this is something you'd likely rather pass on - but if you're interested in a tart tipple, this is a worthy pick-up. I'll return to it again, but this is really the sort of beer you need to be in the mood for.

Their brewers were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.

At least the name is appropriate.

Picked up from the brewery for under $4 CDN per can. Served cold into a pint glass.

Appearance - Mildly hazy golden color with a small finger of white head on top that fizzles out quick. Good carbonation and a lacing of lacing at the edges of the glass.

Smell - Sour all the way with tart lemon aromas coming through most prominently, there's an undercurrent of earthy and funky or sweaty gym socks going on too.

Taste - More tart and lemony with some other funky bits going on, flavor doesn't last that long. This is certainly more along the lines of a wild ale or berliner even than IPA. Not much bitterness here other than the remnants of lemon.

Mouthfeel - Crisp and fairly light - refreshing on a warm summer's night. Carbonation is lively for the amount in the beer.

Overall - Yeah, calling it an IPA doesn't make it an IPA, this is more Berliner or American Wild Ale than IPA. Even still it's alright if unspectacular. Probably wouldn't revisit though, although that's my tastebuds at play.
