473 mL can purchased at Superstore, the second of four 'mystery IPAs' included in their Vol. 2 Mystery Pack. Dated Oct 2 2020 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a medium golden hue, borderline clear in complexion but also rife with clumps of sediment. One finger of foamy, frothy white head melts away within several minutes' time; the remnants include a tight collar and filmy cap, as well as a messy coat of sticky lace - looks good to me. Grapefruit, orange and grassy/herbal hops on the nose, with hints of apricot, melon and passion fruit, as well as some wheaty, grainy pale malts and bready sweetness.

This one's relatively juicy, with a fairly robust malt bill and a bit of a syrupy fruit cup sweetness to it. Peaches, apricot, mandarin orange and melon with a touch of coconut coming through later on; the bready pale malts and lightly caramelized sugars serve as more of a backdrop. Orange, melon and coconut with pithy, pine resiny bitterness lingering briefly into the aftertaste - the 6.5% is noticeable here, but only just. Medium-full in body, with moderate carbonation levels that lends a bit of prickliness to this brew's smooth, pillowy texture. I did like this beer, but its drinkability is limited IMO.

Final Grade: 3.62, a B grade. Mystery Beer B is a decent IPA, but not impressive enough to be worth a spot in their line-up. Nickel Brook's existing pale ales already have a leg up on this one IMO, which is both sweeter and a little boozier than I'd prefer from a moderate-strength IPA. Of course, my main issue is with that hint of coconut - I'd wager there's Sabro hops in here, and they're simply not my cup of tea. B won't be getting my vote, but I don't regret having the chance to try it.
