473 mL can purchased at Superstore, the third of four 'mystery IPAs' included in their Vol. 2 Mystery Pack. Dated Oct 21 2020 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a hazy, translucent straw yellow colour, topped with nearly one finger of sudsy, frothy white head that disintegrates within a minute or two. A thin, wavering band of lace is flung about in the process, with the only other survivors being a thin collar and some filmy wisps on the surface. Looks good, but the aroma is quite muted - hints of citrus peel, crackery malts and grassy hops are all I'm getting.
An inoffensive, ultra light pale ale - it's got a bit of a lemon-lime citrus flavour at the forefront, as well as hints of grainy pale malts and crackery sweetness. Finishes with pithy, grassy hop bitterness, and just a hint of lemon peel receding into a dry-ish aftertaste. Light in body, with aggressive carbonation that feels crisp and spritzy on the tongue, giving it a palate scrubbing quality; pretty refreshing to be honest, with high drinkability. It's ok, but in terms of interest in revisiting this beer, I have almost none.
Final Grade: 3.58, a B grade. Mystery Beer C is serviceable for a very light pale ale - you could do worse, though I suppose it's fair to mention that I don't really buy session IPAs very often in the first place, and this one is just 'extra light' which serves only to magnify the traits I already don't like about this sub-style. C is perhaps a little more drinkable than Nickel Brook's Lost in Orbit - which I find has a hop acid burn, something totally absent here... but it's also not as flavourful and a less memorable beer overall. No way it's going to get my vote for 'mystery pack winner'.
