473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Nickel Brook's Winter Mixed Pack. Dated Oct 6 2023 and served barely chilled. I promise not to make any Borat references.

Pours a hazy straw yellow colour, tossing up nearly two inches of fluffy, foamy white head that settles off over the next five-plus minutes, caking the glass with gobs of generous lace as it recedes. A creamy collar and lumpy, patchy cap remain in place - looks ok so far. The aroma is subtle, offering up hints of stone fruit, pineapple, lemon and orange peel, with hints of gritty, wheaty grains and grassy hay.

Relatively flavourful for such a light ale - I'm tasting a mixture of white peach and grapefruit, supported by flavours of grainy wheat and flaked oats. Hints of pineapple and mango, too, with a floral, earthy tail end and moderately high bitterness for a session IPA; finishes grassy and dry. Light in body, with average carbonation that adds some bite to this brew's smooth, frothy mouthfeel; great drinkability.

Final Grade: 3.73, a B grade. Very Nice would be more accurately titled Pretty Good. The mouthfeel and visuals are what sold this one for me, as its aromas and flavours are mostly commonplace - this is a well-made session IPA that doesn't do much to differentiate itself. Fine for what it is, but unfortunately I have never had much interest in session IPAs, so realistically I do not see myself returning to this on a regular basis. I'd still recommend it to other beer geeks who appreciate this type of IPA, but it's not for me.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. Purchased from the brewery. Labelled as a Mellow India Pale Ale.

Appearance - Super turbid and hazy pale orangey yellow brew. A finger plus of frothy white head is poured and stays around for a little while. Sparse soapy lacing clings to the glass.

Smell - Mango and lychee are the big aromas here, and surprisingly intense for a lower ABV brew, some weedy undercurrent here too.

Taste - Quite assertively bitter with weedy flavors that last in the aftertaste. The mango and lychee are much more hidden relative to the nose. Aftertaste is a little bit of being bitter for the sake of being bitter, not really mellow at all. Grapefruit in here too. After a couple sips it drinks more balanced.

Mouthfeel - Medium-light bodied, good modest carbonation dry finish and easy to drink.

Overall - The bitterness in the aftertaste ruins this for me in a sense because it is overbearing. Otherwise really well crafted lighter IPA that packs a ton of flavor.
