473 mL can from the LCBO, one of three new brews in their recent IPA mixed six pack. Dated Apr 20 2023 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a cloudy, translucent pale straw yellow colour, topped with at least two fingers of soapy, foamy white head that lasts for five minutes, give or take. A messy coat of delicate lace is splattered onto the glass, with a frothy, sudsy collar and patchy cap living on - looks good so far. The aroma is spicy and herbal, with hints of white pepper, floral hops, lemon peel and melon.

Its flavours are mild and approachable: there's a subtle undercurrent of grainy, wheaty malts and oats, punctuated by notes of lemon peel, lime zest and sweet plum. Hints of spicy pepper and green, herbal hops develop later on, with low levels of pithy, floral bitterness dissipating into a citrusy aftertaste that trends off-dry. Light-ish in body, with moderate carbonation that feels prickly and lively on the tongue; crisp, refreshing mouthfeel that helps make this beer's case as a light, refreshing summer pale ale.

Final Grade: 3.77, managing a B+. Nickel Brook's Crystal & Cashmere is a serviceable yet unremarkable session IPA. The flavour profile is actually very well-balanced, which makes it effortlessly easy to knock back - but being a light IPA, there's nothing that really stands out or 'pops', at least not for me. I did like the mouthfeel, and it's nice to try a session IPA that doesn't come off as watery hop tea - I'd drink this again if I came across it, but it's not a beer I'd specifically seek out.
