473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Nickel Brook's 2025 Mystery Pack. Dated Sep 26 2025 and served barely chilled.
Pours a foggy pale golden colour, with silty sediment visible within the liquid. Nearly three fingers of foamy, sparkling white head erupts from the surface, gradually diminishing to a rocky, crater-pocked cap about one finger thick. Fantastic lace deposition, too - yep, this is a good-lookin' Belgian-style beer. The aroma is inviting and complex - orchard fruit notes such as peach and pear figure in prominently, but there's also floral, herbal hops, clove, lemon & grapefruit peel, as well as a whiff of wheaty, grainy pale malts and icing sugar.
The flavours follow the nose, though they're a bit muffled in comparison. Orchard fruits such as pear, peach and apple come to mind, with hints of grape must, lemon curd and wheat. Floral hops, yeast spiciness and grapefruit peel arrive late in the sip, preceding a pithy, yeasty aftertaste that lingers on the taste buds. Medium in body, with low carbonation that brushes meekly across the tongue, resulting in a smooth, slick mouthfeel that doesn't suit the style IMO. Decent drinkability.
Final Grade: 3.82, a B+. Mystery Beer B delivers much of what I've come to expect from this style, e.g. the billowing head and impressive visuals, the fragrant aroma of hops and Belgian yeast, etc. On the other hand, the mouthfeel needs some work, and while the flavours are fine, I don't think they're quite there yet. I've had considerably better Belgian IPAs in the past, but I've also had much worse - this is passable for a North American take, but compared to most of the imported equivalents, it's not really up to snuff. I'd probably buy this again as a single, at least once in a while... but I don't really expect it to win this contest.

473ml can served cold into a tulip. LCBO purchase. Canned September 26, 2025.
Appearance - Rather hazy golden/straw colored beer with two plus fingers of foamy and long-lived white head.
Smell - Fruity esters, powdery doughnuts, yeast. Some apple/nectarine skins combo too. Good intensity.
Taste - Fruity and floral up front with some yeastness, then big dose of of unbalanced bitterness. Finishes with some more floral notes and a kiss of apple.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, drinks really cold and the carbonation is on the lighter side. Has an unusual slickness that isn't unpleasant but is a bit strange for a Belgian IPA.
Overall - Interesting beer for sure, I don't think this makes the regular rotation, but very good to see some unique styles in play here.
