Crisp waves of aromatic ginger, lime, and orange anchor this light and refreshing witbier, spiced with turmeric and coriander.

My first shipment from the Micro-brewed Beer Club, it otherwise would have been hard to get a Foothills beer.
This is one the brewer's few ventures into the Belgian tradition after 12 years of brewing mostly IPAs. Good Ship Wit could be better than its ratings, but it is not.
Good Ship's big weakness is common: the yeast does not perform. A good wit yeast kicks up lots of foam and swirling protein that tells me the wit is alive as is its fruitiness. But not so on this Good Ship. Its Tastes and Feel are slightly above average; this is refreshing, it does cut through fried foods. But, it is a below average wit by a brewer who should know better by now.
As for my micro-review, I still want to like these guys. North Carolina micros in the last 10 years have gone from zero to something and Foothills, it would seem, has been a part of that. Their website does show a very good sense of humor and being in NC's Research Triangle helps to elevate brewing culture. But yeast is key to Belgians; and it is best to consider Good Ship as a prototype.

A Microbrewery Club offering. Pours a yellow color with a minimal head that disappears quickly. Aroma of citrus and spices. Taste is a spicy orange. Crisp and dry.

From a beer of the month club poured into a pint glass. Pour had a pale orange body with moderate haze. Scent has a citric (lime primarily with some orange) and notes of spice (coriander, ginger). Taste follows well, with a very enjoyable profile where the lime and toasty malts play off each other. Feel is crisp, bright, and well rounded -- a real winner! Overall this is a great beer that feels like the best parts of many other drinkable wheat or wit beers.

On tap at Sticks and Stones in Greensboro into pint glass. Pours moderately hazy pale golden straw color with a thin lace cap for a head that lingers. Light spotty lacing and some streaming carbonation on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine juice, lime, ginger, coriander, citrus peel, peppercorn, pear, light banana/bubblegum/clove, wheat, bread, and yeast earthiness. Light to medium herbal/grassy bitterness and spicy yeast finish. Light tangy/tart yeast and wheat. Medium carbonation. Creamy/grainy light to med body. Drying sticky hops. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Very flavorful and refreshing. Spot on wit as expected of the brewery, no complaints.

Good Ship Wit pours a golden color, with no head, some bubbles though. Aroma is weak, a bit of lime. Flavor is light, but nice, creamy, hints of lime and orange, the slightest hint of ginger near the end. A bit flat. Overall, its light, and ugly, but it does have a nice flavor, and its a nice beer.

Purchased this bottle in Asheville earlier this month.
Pours a murky yellow with no significant head and lacing. Ginger and lime smell and taste. A bit orange taste. Nice spicy taste with a traditional wit background. Good tasting but probably not a repeater.

Purchased as a single bottle from Fresh Market for $2.09. Poured into a hefe glass.
L - Murky light orange with a quick-to-fizzle-out bright white head.
S - Wheat, coriander, and orange peel. Slight clove.
T - Lime and orange peel give gentle way to a strong spicy punch. Wheat throughout. Clean citrus finish.
F - Wonderful light carbonation. Smooth. Crisp. Refreshing. Very easy to drink.
O - A not-too-bad beer for a not-too-bad day. Can't really complain here. Would buy again.

Hazy pale-orange appearance. A bit grassy, some notes of coriander. Sharp carbonation. Bit of lemon flavor on the finish which lingers. Quite enjoyable, good representation of the style.
