Poured very dark brown to near black with thin head.

Nose had dark chocolate cocoa powder, with some fresh baked bread.

Palate was a (good) chalky-chocolate flavor, almost reminding me of that chocolate powder used to make chocolate milk. Perhaps it is the oats coming through.

Rather full bodied, slow drinking, and pairs well with their foods.

Had from the tap numerous times at Beav. St, pairs well with some of their foods.

The beer pours a nice black, but sadly doesn't give off any other colors before reaching black, as seen with other stouts. Also, there is usually not much head to this beer, which really gets rid of some of the malty and chocolate notes one would expect to find in this beer.

The flavor comes off either sweet, roasted, chocolaty or mild bittery, depending on when you get it, I recommend getting it in the winter months.

In conclusion, it is a decent beer, but I only recommend getting it with certain foods on their menu.

I had this on tap at the brew pub in Flagstaff, AZ. It poured a deep dark brown-black color and didn't have much of a head. Again, it didn't have much of an aroma either. It had a good roasty malt taste, but I didn't pick up any of the chocolate tones it should have.

Da Boss and I spent the weekend up in Flagstaff, enjoying temps much cooler than the Sonoran Desert.

Beer was black as night but did not have much head when served. Nose had a light hint of coffee and nothing much else. Taste was of coffee and chocolate with a bittering hop finish. Mouthfeel was nice and smooth but it was a bit thin for the style. Drinkability was very good. This was quite enjoyable and worth a shot if you are a fan of this style.

Rated from a sampler, from my 2001 notes. Pretty decent. I gave it points for also smelling like a creamy oatmeal stout, on top of a Guinness-y head. Nice and malty, meaning, of course, that there was just a little hop activity going on. Stands out nicely among other beers in any sampler platter.
