Copenhagen 27/7 2016. 50 cl bottle from Fakta, Frederikssundsvej, Kbh. NV. Ancient rendering of brewers doing their thing with a huge barrel.

Pours opaque dark brown with a big beige head. Settles as a fat creamy layer of foam. Thick lacing.

Aroma is dark chocolate, coffee and alcohol. Caramel and toffee.

Soft carbonation and creamy oily palate. Lightly tingling texture.

Flavor is pronounced sweet and slightly roasted. Followed by medium bitterness.

In the better league of the Willemoes brand.

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 9.8%. Ingredients include artificial colour (hm ...) E 150 c, liquorice and anti-oxidant E 300. Black colour, big tan head. Moderate aroma of roasted malts, caramel and some fruit. The flavour is fairly sweet with plenty of caramel and liquorice, while the roastiness and hops come through in the finish. Notes of dark dried fruits too. Roasty aftertaste. Overall too much caramel, but a nice Baltic porter all the same.

No idea where I got this one. These are old notes.

From a bottle into a snifter

APPEARANCE: A clear dark brown pour yields a one finger, medium, light tan head with decent retention. Head fades to a wisp and ring. Clear black body with no carbonation evident. Looks fine.

SMELL: Dark malts, raisins, some notes of vanilla and some dark fruits.

TASTE: Dark malts and leather up front with a bold and lingering finish of raisins, dates, chocolate and burnt malt flavors. Hints of vanilla worm their way through as well.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes slightly dry.

OVERALL: Decent beer. An enjoyable strong porter with enough character to make it interesting. Worth checking out. Cheers!
