Copenhagen 6/9 2018. 50 cl bottle from SuperBrugsen. Yellow and green version of Herslev's usual label design. As "Herslev Asparges Hvedeøl".

Pours pale, slightly hazy yellow with a greenish tinge and small, bubbly, white head. Settles as thin, lonely patch of foam. No lacing.

Aroma is sweet and herbal. Sweet wheaty lemonade, pear, citrus and something that actually smells like asparagus.

Medium strong carbonation. Thin, watery, lively texture.

Flavor is medium sweet followed followed by a slightly more moderate herbal sour bitterness. Aftertaste is sour. Lingering for a while.

A quite strange experience. The vegetables dominates a bit too much for my taste buds. But I must admit that they are not afraid to experiment.

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Cloudy golden colour. Aroma of asparagus! Flavour of citrus and asparagus, hints of cloves. A fun experiment, but I’m sorry - I’d rather have a bowl of asparagus soup with an "ordinary" wheat beer at the side.

A: Pour is murky orange, a small white sizziling head dissipate instantly leaving absolutely no lace.

S: Asparagus galore! Faint citric notes and the wheat gives it a ripe banana-vibe.

T: Asparagus again, overpowers any other flavours. Sweet.

M: Short aftertaste, some bitterness. Body is light and carbonation is moderate.

D: A wheat beer "spiced" with asparagus didn't sound like a totally bad idea to me - I was wrong! Unbalanced and almost no other smells or flavours besides the asparagus. I didn't finish the bottle...

A very clouded dark yellow beer, a white small head leaving no lacing.

It really smells asparagus! Boiled asparagus with melted butter. Some citric notes and a smoky presence.

The taste is also very asparagus dominated, as well as there is a smoky meat/butter presence. In the background some lemon and orange, and a bitter finish.

Medium carbonation, a bit coarse, a dry and warm finish.

A bit uneven, and very unexpected. Overall not bad, but not a given success either. I have not tried it with asparagus (as the bottle suggests). But will it not be too much?
