First had: on tap at their brewpub
Hazy chestnut brown pour with a small white head that receded to a ringlet and left a few dots of lacing on the glass. Not much in the nose, toasted grains, and some light spice. Taste of caramel malts, toasted wheat, peppery spice, green tea, light citrus notes, and some herbal hops. I didn't really interpret this as a saison, but overall it wasn't too bad. Light-medium body, and while not overly flavorful, it was pretty easily drinkable.

From the bullfrog webpage description: "A farmhouse winter ale spiced with chamomile, hibiscus and orange peel. 7% ABV"
On tap at the source, the brew appears a clouded light brown color with a white cap. Pretty fair retention that leaves some patches of lace on the glass as it fades.
The nose is fruity with a wheaty grain inclusion coupled with plenty of saison yeast character. It is spicy, almost peppery but not really in the typical crushed black pepper sort of way. There is a very mild diapery note and something almost along the lines of corn.
The taste includes plenty of wheat with some fruity quality like apple mixed with peppercorns. Some warming alcohol accents the fruity aspects with some trace amounts of herbs and spices. The farmhouse aspect of this brew's taste doesnt really stand out but it isnt bad.
This is a medium to fuller bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is a nice saison with a fruity wheat twist and subtle spice additions. Not really what I was expecting for a "winter" offering but it still works.
