Very Good
FarmlandiaFarmlandia
Notes: Farmlandia is a wheat beer fermented with Saison yeast. Saison is French for “spring time in a hay field” which is not true, but it describes that very sensation. A better more exact description of Saison tells us that this beer is: citrusy, spicy, effervescent, bubbly and light-medium bodied. Farmlandia is made with pilsner malt which carries a larger malt and sweet flavor than basic brewers malt. The white wheat gives this beer a light golden color and light body as well as giving the beer a slight haze. Farmlandia has a crisp, clean malt profile and the French Saison yeast provides some spice in the aroma, a light fruitiness, and crisp and dry mouthfeel.

Hazy gold with one finger of foamy white head. Fair amount of lace as the level drops.
Smell is lightly pungent yeast.
Taste is lightly funked yeast with a light bitterness at the end of each sip. The malt level is fine and adds a bit of balance.
Mouthfeel if light to medium with good carbonation. Finish is dry and lightly bitter.
Overall I would drink this again but maybe not at $5.29 for a bomber. More likely a pint at a bar or tavern.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a tulip.

Appearance: medium gold with a moderate, shimmery haze and a finger of frothy ivory foam. There's a nice lace left on the glass, too. I rather like it.

Smell: richly vernal, with a brightly grassy springtime character and a dash of funk. Sweetness and wheatiness are also nice, and overall it manages to be soft and enticing as well as complex and interesting. Kudos!

Taste: nicely funky with just a dash more kick than the aroma. The smooth, round wheatiness plays very well with the moderate funk and just a little dash of pucker. Probably the best Washington saison I've had.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess. Quite satisfying indeed.

Overall: I'm really loving this beer. This is a surprise -- I'm really glad something like this is being made in my native Eastern Washington. I will have to pick up 12 of these for camping this summer.

Very pleasant sudsy brew with plenty of the Belgian yeasty flavor. Fairly robust mouthfeel. Quite sharp on the tongue. A better than average Saison-style brew that is less sweet and fruity than many of the style. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Trader Joes in Lynnwood.

22oz bottle pours pale hazy orange and forms an enormous amount of white head in my tulip glass. Appears to be quite effervescent. Aroma is mild and not too horse blanket-y at all, it's actually fresh and a little bit Pilsner-y. Drinking it in reveals just a little bit of sourness atop a significant grade of fruity sweetness. Lemon flavors nicely compliment the wheat in the grain bill here. There's a mildness to this saison, which I appreciate, being not so much a fan of tart saisons myself. This would actually be quite sessionable (5.4% ABV) except I think this beer's sweetness starts to get in its way. Definitely a good brew for a warm summer day though (as opposed to this cool Seattle evening).

Not a huge fan of the style but this one could be a gateway for me.

small creamy head with good retention. Dark yellow color. Hazy look. Fruit cake aroma, heavy and sweet. Initial taste is like the aroma, heavy fruits, not too sweet at all which tends to be my gripe with the Saisons. Lingers a bit then with a nice biscuit finish. Mouthfeel is somewhere between medium to heavy. Spritzy but not too carbonated. I really enjoyed this and recommend it to anyone who is thinking about trying more Farmhouse ales and needs a really easy introduction.

Edit: Just had this again as a bomber and enjoyed it so much I got up and went to buy another one. I enjoyed both bottles even more than the last time and have re-rated the beer accordingly.

Bottle from Albertsons. Medium golden, clear body with substantial foamy head. Head subsides to small skin. Yeasty, musty aroma follows to somewhat buttery taste, overall oily feel. Finishes fast and leaves a metallic aftertaste. Looks like a duck, walks like a duck, but not quite a duck....

Served from 22oz bottle

A — Pours a clear and clear bright yellow color. Nice light white colored head on it as well, very nice lacing left down the inside of the glass.

S — Smells of light Saison yeast and is lightly malty, little bit sweet, really looking for more yeasty esters here.

T — Tastes quite hoppy for the style, little bit bizarre, hoppy and fresh. Little to no yeast character.

M — Light-Medium bodied, quite thin as well.

O — Underwhelming, just a hoppy Saison which hasn't been executed very well.

From a 22 oz bottle: Pours a hazy yellow with a great 1 inch head. Effervescent, a tiny bit sour as a farmhouse ale should be. There is some coriander, reminiscent of a Belgian ale. A great farmhouse ale, perfect for a nice spring day, will be buying more of this.

Pours a deep yellow with a thick white head. Smells of light malts, corn and apple orchards. Taste of sweet corn and grass. A bit of Apple skin comes through and a bit of spiciness from the yeast. A little heavier mouthfeel than expected that coats your mouth as it goes down. A slight deduction on feel but still a decent offering.
