My first Finnegans ever – is that possible? Is. 12 oz. single can picked up because it has the word “rye” on the label. Take my money.
The name is apt, as the can pops & the foamy contains brim (OK, erupt) out of the can, & I avoid spilling anything only through superior skill & reflexes. The head bulges but collapses with nary a whimper within minutes. Coppery orange & mostly clear, with a nose that begs a honey-like sweetness & spicy rye. Not bad.
Brim Reaper is either seriously under-attenuated or seriously overly malty. Big hand of sweetness up front that can’t be balanced out by the spiciness of the rye, which is nice but overwhelmed. Earthy, dank, bready. The sweetness & swampiness increases as it warms, not to its betterment. Too spritzy. Could have done with a taster.
Pretty good cold, then adequate, then unappealing. Might drink half the can. Glad I only bought one…& the search for a fine local rye goes on...

12oz can. Poured out a clear amber color with golden highlights and a small, tan head of foam. It smelled of spicy rye, toffee and caramel. Spicy and piney with bready malt and caramel.
