Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); best barley malt, yeast and aromatic hops; fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create a relatively dry ale with rich nutty colour and palate of beech nuts, almonds and walnuts.

Excellent head production, retention, and lacing, with a creamy dark tan topper of foam slowly receding, leaving behind wide fields of lacing. Body is crystal clear, dark brown with a coppery tint, and very lively.

Fruity, estery nose: dark fruits (raisin, prune) layered atop pumpernickel and wheat bread, accented with pepper notes and a bit of cola. Light toast.

Smooth, light mouthfeel. Lively yet slick. Very drinkable. Thickens slightly as it warms.

Flavor follows the nose somewhat. Dark fruit and a light banana note mingle with dark bread and cola, yielding to a nutty and lightly toasty middle. Cola returns on the back end, along with prune and a leafy green herbal note, lending a moderate bitterness to clear the way for the next sip.

Definitely a beer you can quickly quaff - but not "crushable," exactly. Rather, the semi-dry, clean, bitter finish leaves little lingering aftertaste, and simply readies you for the next sip before you're done fully savoring the previous.

Right out of the gate this one had a different flavor profile than I was expecting. Yes the nuttiness is there, but no it's not too powerful. It's tarter than I expected, but not in a bad way. The tartness blends well with the nuttiness. A subtle sweetness is pervasive, less pronounced than the tartness, but yet it's there and balances is quite nicely. It's a good beer.

Pours a beautiful amber color. Tight, frothy head with really small packed bubbles. Smell is toasted "nuts" (an assortment), dried dates, cocoa and deeper fruit note that I just cant put my finger on. Taste is roasted hazelnut, mocha, malt, milk chocolate, banana is definitely in there as well. Picked this beer up a whim, completely random. A great representation of the style, worth the trip to pick a few of these up. Bonus points if its a bit chilly outside!

A 550ml bottle, poured into a beer glass.
A mahogany brown color with high clarity, a thin head and splotches of lacing.
Malty flavor with an off dry character, subtle nuttiness and bitterness.
