This Kent pale ale has 9 different types of Kent bred and grown hops.

This hoppy, citrusy ale stands up well to spicy curries and is also great with smoked fish or fish and chips.

This was too hoppy for me to drink and enjoy with my cheese plate. It was not so much that the 9 hops added up to too much bitter (but it was for this malt head), the after-taste was metallic and clinging and prevented me from tasting the subtleties of the cheeses.

While this had a generous foam and good lace, Smells were at least two conflicting aromatic hops. And while after-Taste was a problem, this was medium-mouthed and cleansed my palate... except for that damn metallic taste.

Westerham does all the Good Guy stuff (sustainable brewing, honest customer and vendor relations). But I also expect more from a 22 year old micro for them to have advanced brewing. But carrying on the local tradition -- just outside of the London metro's Greenbelt -- and using a good water source is enough to give them good Overall Hugs.

500ml brown glass bottle.
L: Clear, golden colour with one finger of foam that recedes to a bubbly smear and leaves rings of lacing.
S: Clean and faintly lemony.
T: Some biscuit, quite a lot of generic citrus. Low to medium bitterness.
F: Light body, slightly thin mouthfeel, light carbonation, dry-ish.
O: A pretty generic English golden ale, despite the touted 9 different hop varieties. Refreshing and easy-drinking on a summer afternoon but not otherwise memorable.

Bottle. Light amber. Clear with a wispy head.
Mixed hops upon smelling without any standing out. Herbal, hedgerow and citrus.
A balanced flavour as some malt shows itself. A mild bitter finish.
Light to moderate body with mid range carbonation. Quite a refreshing feel.
A reasonable summer beer.

flavours of lemon, bartley sugar turning to peppermint and a full on bitter finish
nice easy drinking with good carbonation
