On tap at Beer Revolution of Peche Day 2016 from notes

A not quite black, top filled glass just has a thin film that leaves no lace

S sweetened coffee, bakers chocolate, lots of dark roast, the peaches come out as it warms, strange smelling peaches through all the coffee and dark roast, some burnt brown sugar and hard toffee

T much like the nose but the coffees but the coffees burnt, still has a faint fruity background working for it, I wouldn’t say there’s any improvement over the original but its unique in its own right

M silky and thick, low carbonation, a little oily on the palate, strong mix of coffee, dark chocolate and peaches linger for ages

O interesting beer, a big coffee stout with peaches? I can’t recall a similar creation

I liked this one and was surprised how easy it was to pick out the peach after it warmed up a bit. I’m glad I got off my lazy ass and went down to give it a try, different for sure.

Purchased a 5oz sample for $4.00. Served at 7deg C in a wine glass

A- Pours a tiny head that films out within a minute or two. Very dark almost black colour.

S- Not a lot here

T- Barely can tell there are peaches in this brew. Seems like a standard version with some extra sweetness. The peach is completely bowled over.

M- Sticky and sweet on the tongue.

O- Not that great. Would think they would put a little more into a variant but instead it feels like an afterthought.

Food Pairing

This one is pretty much the same as the regular version so this brew would go well with...... anything the standard version would go well with.

Enjoy

12oz chalice at Beer Revolution YEG's Péché Day (after) event. I love that DDC made a beer for those who have trouble with French words.

This beer appears a solid black abyss, with the scantest of basal cola edges, and a thin cap of lazily foamy and creamy beige head, which leaves but a low ebbing berm of lace around the glass as things slowly sink away.

It smells of fairly pungent cafe-au-lait, grainy caramel malt, wet ash, subtle fleshy fruit (could be peach, I suppose), a sort of buttery nuttiness, and laid-back earthy, leafy, and weedy hop bitters. The taste is overripe peach and apricot, still rather creamy coffee, sweet and mildly roasted caramel malt, bittersweet chocolate, a hint of black licorice, a fading free-range ashiness, and more tame earthy, floral, and citrusy hoppiness.

The bubbles are pretty much subdued in their hard to discern frothiness, the body a solid medium-heavy weight, and generally smooth, nothing really kicking about that might make a difference. It finishes on the sweet side, as the now generic fruitiness completes its mind meld with that coffee-flecked big-ass stout.

Overall, if you didn't tell me beforehand that there were peaches in this offering, I might have just passed off my supposed impression of them to the expected new age hops. At any rate, this remains a stellar by default variant of the base brew.

Poured on tap at Churchkey DC into a snifter glass during Péché Mortel day.

A thin tan and very light looking head is presented, but has a a real soapy appearance to it. Head sits on a standard opaque classic walnut dark brown not quite black body.

The brews aroma is a bit odd at first. Moderate peach notes with a little bit of small roasting character and rather subtle and neutral. There's an odd brown spice character to this which hints at a bit of sourness quality (not infection) and almost a drying tannic which is a bit jarring. The peach quality is upfront with still some of the stout character following late but dominates but in a strange, almost "off" way. Interesting but not sure where the beer might be going on first sip.

Palate is a bit unexpected. Twinge of mild "sort of" tartness to it, with a light juice quality on the mouthfeel that takes the stout character down quite a bit. Some classic vanilla and coffee tones come in, but there's an odd acidity to this with the fruit that almost comes like a soured coffee quality. The peach character almost has an artificial flavor to it even though it's probably not from what I've been reading, and has this actually tangy front of tartness that throws things a bit like an infection. Some of the coffee, vanilla and some small dark chocolate creeps out but the fruit angle is inescapable and comes a bit distracting more than complimentary.

It's a neat experiment but it didn't quite get right, not sure it's the right fruit quality for this beer either, but luckily it's not a total waste either.

It was interesting that they brewed this variant but the beer wasn't impressive at all. The peach was subtle, adding more sweetness than flavour but neither component was an improvement for me, especially when drinking this side by side with other versions.
