Goose Island Brewhouse "Sonic Boom"
From their website: "Sour Ale w/ Cherry and Lime. 5.4% ABV. Fruity, tart, and ready to send shockwaves of flavor into your face. We brewed this ale with Philly Sour yeast harvested and tested by our friends at University of the Sciences in West Philly. This unique yeast produces both lactic acid and alcohol in one fermentation step, eliminating the need to kettle sour or wait months, or years, for acidity to develop. After fermenting with Philly Sour, we upped the fruity and tart character by adding cherry and key lime. The resulting beer has a beautiful hazy rose appearance with bright flavors and aromas of sour cherries and zesty lime. Extremely refreshing and drinkable, like the most gown-up cherry limeade you’ve ever had. Hurry up and order one, but not too fast, otherwise you might cause a sonic boom!"
Look: Hazy pinkish-orange body beneath an inch and a half of slightly pinkish off-white foam. The head retention is excellent for a sour beer.
Smell: Mineralish, mildly fruity, distantly malty.
Taste: Cherry and lime, as promised. It's tart but not really "sour". There's no real bitterness to it but none is needed with the stiff acidity. Refreshing.
Feel: Medium-light in body and gently zesty and effervescent.
Overall: It's pleasant enough, and the cherry-lime is somewhat unique yet it remains quite one-sided. On a hot day I'd imagine you could enjoy more than one of these but otherwise you'll probably lose interest halfway through your first one.
