Served in a tulip glass at the Clybourn brewpub.
We need more black saisons in this world... This one pours a rather dark mahogany (verging on black) topped by a bit more than a finger of sienna foam. The nose comprises molasses-covered cherries (the menu nailed that one), light roasted malts, and very light toasted oats. The taste holds notes of cardamom, light roasted malts, light graham crackers, and very light (and dry) maple syrup. The body is a light medium, with a moderate carbonation and a dry, effervescent finish. Overall, a pretty tasty black saison, despite the almost too-champagne-like feel and finish. Not bad.

A - Very dark saison, almost black. Has a nice looking bit of brown foam on it that left some spots on the sides of the glass.
S - Belgian yeast, some fruit, a little grass, and some chocolate.
T - I actually find this pretty good. There is some slight cocoa flavor to the fruits and yeasts that you normally get with a saison. Really adds a bit of meat to it and depth.
M - Medium bodied, higher carbonation.
O - Surpringly enjoyable, not a bad beer at all.

On-tap for the April Goose Island BA gathering. Served in a Goose Island taster glass.
A - Big light tan foam that settles to a persistent cap and thicker collar, leaving splotches of lace. Dark brown body that is somewhat hazy. One of the better looking "dark" Saisons I've encountered.
S - Peppery, cocoa, stone fruits, Belgian yeast. Smelles pretty much like a Saison but with some chocolate.
T - Taste is more Saison, with only light cocoa. Pears, stone fruits, peppery yeast, some light herbal notes.
M - Slightly gritty, medium-high carbonation, medium bodied. A little dry in the finish.
D - Not bad. I had a few pours of this one, but I preferred Black Pyramid by a large margin.

This is a black saison, March 14th's beer release of the week...
A ~ a dark raisony black, carbonated beer with not a lot of light shed here...
S ~ definite Saison funky fruity notes going on here...
T ~ sweet fruit blended in with some malt presence...bit sour on the back, but the taste buds were left craving more
M ~ this one kind of coats the mouth and then spreads throughout.. a nice soft feel on the palate with a bit of carbonation tickling the mouth
O ~ a great beer.. nearly walked out with a Growler, but had one sittin in the car from Piece..and was on my way across the street to Binny's to see what they had in stock... May have to get back before it disappears!
