Poured into pint glass, on tap at the Brew Pub in historic downtown Calumet MI.
Appearance: Pours a hazy golden color, with a very thin white head. It hardly covers the top of the ale.
Nose: At first, the juniper comes through nice and strong, only lending way to the sweet apple. Some notes of spice, but hardly.
Taste: The apples really shine on the palate, with a bit of bitterness from the juniper coming through. Not a whole lot of depth or complexity, but there is enough there to keep one interested. Has some sour character to it, but not lactic or brett sour, but just from the natural fermentation of the apples.
Mouth: Kind of prickly mouthfeel. Drinks almost like a Berliner-Weisse. Good amount of carbonation (which has been an issue at RJB)
Drink and overall: A really tasty brew from a local brewpub. Gotta hand it to the guys at RJB, this is a good beer. I enjoy it as a change of pace after a glass of their Oatmeal Espress. Something different, and it uses local ingredients, so score an extra .5 point for that!
