I added Beer-thday as an English Pale even though it is golden and UnTappd lists it as a Blond/Golden English Ale.
Happy Beer-thday is a pretty Golden, good clarity, foam lasts until the last drop and lace sticks around the glass evenly just above the golden body. I also give points for packaging: and Staffordshire does contract brewing and packaging; and my package of three in a birthday box was bought at John Lewis, an upper middle class British store. Clever packaging.
Smells are mostly malt, but not complex... so barely above average. Hops balance the Taste well; entering in the attack, then stronger in mid-palate and finishing firm but quiet. Medium-mouthed. Soft in one of the softer pale styles.
I give excellent Overall Hugs to Cottage Delight, despite them not being a brewery and listing 143 brews on UnTappd. And the basic reason I agree with BA is that Cottage Delight is a culinary specialist in the English kitchen and brewing is just part of that. Also backing up the BA decision is the description that UnTappd uses:
"All our beers and ciders are contract brewed by our neighbours, Staffordshire Brewery. Cottage Delight was founded in 1974, originally creating handmade fudge. Over the years, the range grew to include chutneys, sauces and many more delights such as our beer and cider range. Four decades later, we are still residing in the heart of the Staffy Moorlands. Our dedication to traditional methods and quality ingredients is paramount to our products – which have won an amazing 198 Great Taste Awards. Our incredible journey would not have been possible without the support of independent trade and we remain loyal to these local retailers; our drinks are only available in garden centres and farm shops, as well as local food festivals." (end of quotation used by UnTappd.)
