One of four experimental beers served at Dirty Jacks, Asheville, NC on 11/27/09.

A - Coppery brown body with a slight reddish tint and thin off-white head that deposited minimal lacing around the glass.

S - Smokey and meaty, but not overwhelming as I was expecting for a "bacon" beer. Lots of smoked malt and peat, so the aroma is quite malty overall, with some dark caramel notes to add a bit of sweetness.

T - Liquid bacon... pure and simple. The amtly named "Francis" is extremely meaty but not over the top. This boasts quite an authentic bacon character and is very similar to a Rauchbier. quite tasty indeed!

M - Medium bodied with an oily texture and slight greasy mouthfeel, but not off-putting at all. Interesting texture to say the least. Not a lot of bitterness or much of a hop presence.

D - Surprisingly drinkable with an authentic bacon flavor. Nice and smokey. I really enjoyed this one much more than I had anticipated.

One of the 4 Experimental Winter Warmers offer at Dirty Jacks on Black Friday. Made with one pound of locally smoked bacon per gallon.

A-Very dark, deep copper with a thin off-white head that left spotty lace.

S-Rich smokiness with and underlying malt sweetness that takes one the form of brown sugar. This one has depth and a ton of character.

T-Holy moly...if this isnt a Bamberg, Germany rauchbier I don't know what is! Amazing, fresh, smoke flavour that then blossoms into a deep, rich meatiness and underlying sweetness. Totally delicious!

M-Medium bodied with long lingering smokiness and a nice backing sweetness. Somewhat drying in the finish.

D-Simply amazing. While not a single ounce of smoked malt was used in this brew I would bet that even the most experienced rauchbier drinker would not be able to tell. The depth and character of this beer was spectacular. This one, without question, should enjoy a rotating appearance on the Green Man tap list. This beer is a vegetarians beer nightmare!
