Muddy dark brownish-black with a large, airy tan foam leaving a couple of spots of fuzzy lace on the glass.
This smells like a hoppy black ale with maybe some lime, pine and cocoa and tastes like metallic Brillo pad with some nuts, cocoa, grape and wood.
It's weird and unpalatable with a watery feel, mildly soft carbonation, and semi-wet finish.
2012 vintage...?! I don't think whoever sold this should have sold this, but the label does say "It will drink well immediately and also develop with age."

Pours a dark brown colour, beige head; dense and creamy. Lace is slightly speckled. Pretty decent.
Lightly roasty on the nose; coffee with walnuts, beech wood and vanilla. Some hops on the back - herbs and spice and citrus. Very pleasant characters.
Taste is quite dark and bitter. Decent, malty front, but back is all dank and bitter with coffee, liquorice and tobacco. Hints of hops come through but it is mostly just darkness and seems a little middle of the road as far as dark beers go.
Average body, drinks actually quite hoppy with a bit of a pull, surprisingly.
Decent drop, but maybe a little too young. Makes me very happy that my brother has an enormous stash of this beer and I can revisit and edit this review as the beer ages. It will just keep getting better.

750mL bomber.
Deep chocolate pour, near black in the glass. Heavy-set mocha head, abates very slowly until a raised ring and lattice remains.
Getting some familiar aromas, attesting perhaps to an increasingly ubiquitous Aussie roasted malt-hop combo, interwoven with some sweet, slightly medicinal phenolic and doughy yeast notes. Smooth and deceptively complex.
Quite roasty flavours. Leads out with char and ash, raw cocoa powder and milky coffee, before slowly giving way to a minty pine bitterness.
Medium and palpably oily body, with lighter than expected carbonation. Consequently, it's a slightly messy transition into the mild bitter finish.
Really nice and intriguing. At first the Belgian influence was subtle and I couldn't discern much to differentiate this from a conventional Black IPA, but the yeast character slowly weaves its way through and gives it spunk and roundness.

On tap at Beer Deluxe. From some pretty bad notes.
A - Poured black with a two finger medium brown head that left good lace drapes and a film of retention.
S - Belgian funkiness, some roast.
T - Rich malty sweetness, Belgian funk again. Dark fruits, roast, chocolate. Funk really dominated with not a whole lot of IPA character coming through.
M - Nice carbonation, medium body with a bitter and funky finish.
O/D - Similar to Moon Dog's Henry Ford. Nice and tasty but I couldn't have too much. Worth a shot but seemed like a bit of a one trick pony with the yeast dominance.
