750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Clear reddish. Big off white head. Belies overcarbonation. Retains forever.

Smell - Cherry and malt. Not a lot else, but it isn't an artificial cherry.

Taste - Cherry. A little bit medicinal. Nothing else.

Mouthfeel - Way overcarbonated. Light body.

Overall - The standard for midwest fruit beers is set high. This doesn't meet that standard.

Thanks go out to hoeg0015 for having this bottle (& a brother) muled in from the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth. 750ML bottle with "Cherry Batch 2012" scrawled in silver marker across the top of the label. Split with my wife.

First, the beer's description: "Our once a year nod the to the anniversary of Fitger’s Brewhouse, now in our 16th year. This special malty amber ale is infused with 800 lbs of Montmoracy Cherries from Door County," The pour certainly lives up to the monicker, clear ruby red in the glass with effusive carbonation & a 15,000 foot head. Lovely cool cherry pie filling in the nose, complete with crust. Enticing.

Cherry Batch is one of few beers to carve a different channel than the NG Fruit Twins & still succeed in being chew-toy tasty. Sweet cherries & tart cherries co-exist gorgeously - that's a fine trick! Cherry slurry takes hold & there's a touch of bitterness at the end, & that's it, & that's just fine with me. Does anybody slam 3 Musketeers for being simple? They better not. Cherry-on-cherry action means it's easier to drink than a half-full cup of happy.

There's probably malt in here to make it qualify as a beer, but this is Kool-Aid with a little kick. At half the price (roughly) the NG Twins are a better value, but glad I tried this. Very good beer.
