A Beer my pal JF cracked open during a brewing session, as rare as they are, I couldn't resist taking out the ol'notebook.

Appearance: IPA-like golden bronze with just a thin veil of lacing. Seemed a little too transparent for the style.

Smell: Flowery, with raisins, the first thing that poped in our heads was DFH Raison d'être. I'm not crazy about this kind of aroma, it lacks something that I can't put my finger on and comes off as bland.

Taste: Prickly carbonation, not much yeast action going on, hint of fruity sweetness and some hops in the finish to dry it out. I don't know how fresh this bottle was or how it was handled, but it had a bit of a cardboard taste to it. A bit of a letdown.

Presentation: 33cl brown glass bottle picked up at the Brewery during a recent tour and Brewery Visit on Sunday 16th April, 2006. Sealed with a dark green crown cap, the main label has an eerie looking Skull set against a light blue and green background. Labeled as “Season Mortal” and listed at 7.2%. Ingredients are reported as “Malts-Eau-Sucre-Fruits-Houblon-Levure”. Suggested serving temperature is 4 à 6°C.

Appearance: Polished golden body, the white head had all but disappeared between me pouring this one and starting to write about it. Average carbonation with a hefty fizzing from the head as it dissipates to a sad looking way too relaxed flaccid exterior. Erectile Dysfunction strikes again.

Nose: Solid, appealing, gorgeous nose that promises more ultimately than the beer delivers overall. Fresh tangents from the orange fruits and orchard based contributory factors such as Cox’s Orange Pippin Apples.

Taste: Fruity, spicy apples, baked pears and sugar plums. Sweetness breaks in the middle third of the field, but a hop-laden bitterness breaks this and wrestles it to the ground and eventually balances it all out. Apples certainly contribute a lot to the flavor profile here. Perfume laden in the back of the mouth at times it seems like it needs something more from the malts to balance the apples and bitter hops. Bloody nice though.

Mouthfeel: The low visible carbonation seems at odds with the explosive tongue feel of this one. How can that be!? Not sure, but the spritzy nature and fizzy abode soon give life to what at least looked lifeless but demonstrates some balls.

Drinkability: Rather enjoyable and an easy one to play hide the liquid with. Starts a bit wobbly but overall this has a lot more plus points than minus ones. Not quite refined but could be. Hoopy traits make it drinkable nonetheless.

Overall: A nice enough brew, the looks disappoint, but get beyond that and let the sexy nose entice you and it’s not too bad. So many of Mortal’s beers feel like they have the base effort sorted, but it also just seems that a little further push to make them a solid bet rather than a “seems good but just misses something” is needed. If this beer was a band it would just need a good Producer to espouse its potential. Nicely hopped.

No freshness date. Good nose of fine malts, fresh, applejuice, pale candysugar and overal refreshing.Taste is also lots of aplejuice and candysugar but still good maltyness. Litle phenolic and salty but this hiding the sweetness well before going into a moderate bitterness. Good and full mouthfeel with fine carbonisation makes this one enjoyable and good drinkable.
