Beer poured a clear golden color with a strong rush of bubbles to the top. There was a moderate white head that stuck around for awhile and gave way to a nice ring. There is a pinneapple, sweet citrus nose to the beer. The taste was a combination of sweet upfront from caramel and lemony tastes. There was a touch of bitterness on the tongue that made for a solid beer.

Presentation: Sampled during an organized Brewery Visit to Brasserie Mortal’s Beers on Sunday 16th April, 2006. Served from the tap (but also available in bottles) in the adjoining Bar and Restaurant which opens to the public once a week on Sundays 11am – 9pm.

Sun Mortal – Brewed with Fruit. 5.6% ABV.

Appearance: Clear archetypal pale golden body with a massive white head that has great retention. Conditioning is above average and the even the chilled serving cannot depress the carbonation. Looks good. Nice lacing.

Nose: Spiced pale malts and a trace of Belgian yeast. Ginger, coriander and oregano all nibble at the nostrils, at least I think they do. Not many fruits, but rather an herbal nose overall.

Taste: Allegedly pumped up with fruits, the Sun Mortal seems to benefit from spices & herbs rather than fruits, except maybe for lemons. Citric traits pump up the acidity and lend a spritzy sharpness to the feel. Back end bitterness is hop laden but never over the top. Skinned pears and lemons are the only fruits detectable, possibly green skinned grapes but that’s it. Average tastes low on character.

Mouthfeel: As with most of the Mortal brews, I found the Mouthfeel to be lacking, more light than thin but always lacking nonetheless. Funny how this adds to the Drinkability, and its quaffable character as a positive fall out. Still, this has a “thinner than should be” tendency though.

Drinkability: Very drinkable, I am partial to ginger and the soft “ginger ale” finish but melded with the sharp citric lemon acidity it all blends nicely to make me return to this one sooner rather than later.

Overall: Drinkable and a good Summer ale. Mixed emotions. Nothing special, but a half decent enough offering nonetheless.

No freshness date. Good presentation with good and lasting head aswell as an aeling golden and almost clear beer. Nose is very spiced giving sweet gale, gember, koreander, some green hops and citrussy next to a maltnose that hides under the enormous spicenose. The listed fruits must be pears but can't believe there is no spice in this one. Taste is lots of gember, sweet pears, sweet gale and a low bitterness. Litle malts in there but again hiding under rest of the taste. Moutfeel is special cause of the gember but nice balance between sweet and fresh. Yes this is a well drinkable beer on a hot evening as this is.
