Presentation: Sampled during an organized Brewery Visit to Brasserie Mortals Beers on Sunday 16th April, 2006. Served from the tap (but also available in bottles) in the adjoining Bar and Restaurant which opens to the public once a week on Sundays 11am 9pm.
Kool Mortal Brewed with Honey & Lavender. 5.2% ABV.
Appearance: Pastel gray on the bar with a faded light pink colored head. Uh! Looks strange enough but lift this one up to the daylight and it is, well erm, lucid and lavender colored! A light purple fades to lavender and eventually to gray, from the bottom to the top of the glass, a very strange color indeed and quite the presentation. According to JP at Mortals, this beer is actually green in color, when it is green, if you know what I mean.
Nose: Aroma is far from strong but immensely perfumed in nature and volatile. Light sweetness mixes with soft lavender bath salts and that UK candy from years back called Parma Violets. Also exhibits some hints of spicy ginger (?) as it warms up. Nice enough and far from off-putting.
Taste: No surprises with the lavender, reminded me of the Parma Violets again. Beyond that the light sweetness mixes with the faintest hint of malts and a spiced finish, it smelled like Ginger but I wondered if it was just a residual flavor from the lavender. Served well-chilled but it does start to exhibit bits of blackcurrant as you work your way down and it warms.
Mouthfeel: Has a thin overall feel that doesnt detract but moreover allows the delicate lavender to flourish in the tastes. Little in the way of anything, close your eyes and strip away the lavender and the Mouthfeel is very average, dare I say thin at times.
Drinkability: Went for a 3 here, hard to mark this one, it is far from horrible, in fact in some respects quite the pleasant drink, but it is one of those that you can easily tire of, unless youre a lavender freak. Feels like a blonde beer with lavender, but it works somehow, yet it is fair to say that it only drinks middle of the road.
Overall: It is safe to say that I have never seen a brew that looks like this before, rather unique, but beyond the cute looks (as one of our party described it) it is a beer that simply polarizes such is its unique nature. Nothing bad at all, serious enough, but seemingly tongue-in-cheek at the same time. Not one of those brews that you would drink all night, but it is not half as bad as it sounds. Weird stuff though!

No freshness date. Pinkwhite head and a purple beercollor make appearance scary but iviting to just to taste cause I've never seen a presentation like this. Very well lasting head though and.. yeah just go for it. Nose is lots of blackcurrant, lavendel( as listed) and everything else probably overpowered by this enormously natural perfumed beer. Taste is also very strange giving again this lavendel/blackcurrant taste. Not sweet but sweettasty with litle alcohol noticable. Not much but some fine maltyness makes this into one of the strangest but good tasting brews I've ever met. Aftertaste shows little bitterness but the lavendel taste stays forever. Good carbonisation makes together with this taste mouthfeel good but your mouth probably smells like you have been using toilet refresher as a mouthspray. Well what to say try it once but be aware of the strangest!
