Had at Town Hall Brewery, Seven Corners, Minneapolis, on draft into muffin top tulip pint.

This is a beautiful beer, with complex hop aromas and flavors, but which has (for me) an unfortunate and dominant healthy vegetable flavor.

folks are really loving this one it seems like, and its delicious, and obviously highly preferable to just about any of the blood orange ipa types that have flooded the market in recent years, but they have a winner with this ipa, it really doesnt need any tweaks. it always seems weird to me when a brewery takes an amazing flagship-esque beer like this one and makes changes, its famous for a reason. that said, the mango added tastes fresh to me, its not too sweet, and most importantly of all, its dosed lightly enough to accent the base beer without taking it over, i would have been real disappointed if this covered up the goodness that is the original. the hops and the mango go great together, and this being on the maltier side anyway, there is a lot of support in body so the mango doesnt change the feel too much. its a nice fresh sunny mango flavor, juicy and natural, and it works. i think it brings out the sweetness of the malt a bit much for my personal taste, but the beer remains very balanced. i definitely still prefer the original, its a staple, but this is a nice little variant, nice fresh mango and not too much of it.

Mango keeps getting me on some of my favorite IPAs, and this is no exception. I keep thinking more fruit might throw off the balance, but maybe I just like them that way.

Mango mama pours a darker cooper color with a small head. Hoppy ipa aroma with sweet mango notes. Taste is mainly iPad with subtle sweet mango flavors. Good body and flavor. Overall nice ipa with subtle mango.

On tap at the Tap, into a tulip, pours a clear deep orange-Amber with minimal off white head that dissipates quickly. Some bread and a lot of overripe dark mango on the nose. No hoppy bite on the tongue, no bright tropical flavors...a lot of mango pulp, though...some depth of flavor, but not much complexity. Disappointed. Give me the regular any day...I've heard such good things about this one that I really want this to be a flawed batch, even though I don't think there are technical flaws here.

On tap at Town Hall.

Hmm. Orange-yellow pour, thin white ringlet. Malty nose, with some fruity undertones. This was mainly a malt-bomb, which kind of surprised me after looking at the reviews for so long. It actually reminded me a lot of a homebrew I did a couple years ago, and I ended up calling it a "mango strong ale," because it didn't really come out as an IPA for me. Same deal here. Sweet mango pulp in the taste, but no real IPA bite...malty and fruity sweetness, that was about it. I honestly couldn't even finish the glass. Chewy medium body, and just not very good overall.

On nitro tap at Towh Hall Lanes.
A-a finger of dense white nitro head sits atop a burnt orange brew with some dark golden highlights when held to the light. Some haze.
S-mango (green vs overripe), some cedar like evergreen notes as well. Malt isn't really there in the nose. I think the nitro inhibits some volatiles.
T-tons of mango hit you first then some creaminess from the nitro and malt finishing with a piney bitterness, which isn't as strong as what you get in masala mama. Nice beer.
M-the added creaminess from the nitro is quite nice. I'll take it over the carbonate zing you get from CO2. A little longer finish than I'd like with moderate bitterness.
O-gotta like the mango. A tasty beverage.

This has got to be the best beer on the planet.
Looks like a standard IPA, light orange with a slight haze and is topped by a small head.
The nose reeks of powerful exotic tropical fruits - mango, peaches, kiwi, grapefruit, pineapple, oranges. So good.
Taste does not let me down as all of these fruits transpire in my palate. I've never had such a complex IPA that brings out dynamic tropical flavor. Most are just grapefruity but not this versatile. Thankful to have had this. Easily better than heady and Pliny!

pint served on-tap at the brew hall/restaurant

look is amber orange, fluffy white head. smell is hoppy and pine, tropical fruits, mango. some wheat grain and sweet syrupy malt. feel is an enjoyable medium

very similar to masala mama, but with a mango infused kick. not worth the extra $$ a pint imo.

Had on tap during their anniversary week. Review from notes.

A: Pours a hazy orange color with a small white head on top that reduces to a thin cap on top with little bits of lacing here and there.

S: Wow, tons of fresh mango, it really dominates the aroma. There is also a bit of light pineapple and a grassy aroma. Love this.

T: Again, a huge burst of mango and other tropical fruit flavors, more light grassy. Definitely on the sweeter side.

M: Medium bodied, syrupy and sweet, but still smooth and easy drinking. Nice level of carbonation.

O: As mango is one of my favorite fruits, I loved this beer. Yes, it is very sweet, but I would be pumped to drink this one often.

A: After the growler shared by Lordkrystic so graciously exploded and shot beer all over my kitchen(which I am still cleaning up) it gushed, gushed some more leaving a cloudy deep orangish beer with a big rocky white head

S: Underneath the plethora of medicine and plastic was some fresh mango

T: Initial sip was, as expected, over the top phenols. Initial taste of a funky piece of medicinal soaked plastic. I put it down, walked away, then tried it again. No go.

M: Overcarbonated, light-medium body, the plastic and medicine killed it.

O: Considering the other reviews were stellar I d't think this is a problem with MTH. I have had several growlers from them before with no issues. I would like to give this another shot but unsure when I will have the chance

thanks to minnesotaryan for sending this!

a: deep amber body with two inches of thick patchy white foam. decent retention and lacing.

s: sweet sweet mango, a little caramel in the background.

t: more mango followed by mango, not much of a surprise on this one.

m: medium sticky body, good carbonation level. slight oily stickyness to it.

o: if mango aint your thang than avoid this beer. as for me, i really enjoyed it. a little too sweet for me to kill the growler by myself in one sitting, but over the course of two days there wasn't a problem at all!

Big thanks to the guy who gave me this. Thanks

Appearance: Pours a deep amber with absolutely no head.

Smell: Mango the face! I had some fresh mango last night and it smells identical

Taste: Sweet mango with some earthy grain

Mouthfeel: Decent mouthfeel with the mango that lingers

Overall: After having masala mama I was very hesitant to dabble into mango but I was impressed.

I have wanted this for so long!

Pours into a smallish tulip-shaped challice. It's very thick and very orange, almost pulpy, like cider.

Smells of thick hops--rich citrus with big nodes of orange and grapefruit--along with fresher fruit nodes. Were this named something different, I wouldn't have recognized this fruitiness as mango per se, and probably would have described it more generically as "tropical."

The tropical fruitiness tastes fresh, and meshes very well with the more bitter fruit nodes from the hops. The effect is really tasty, but the beer itself is as thick as syrup and it gets cloyingly sweet after a while. 10 ounces is the right amount.

This is a dessert beer, for sure. Well worth trying and wonderfully brewed but a bit too sweet for drinking more than occasionally.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured into a 10 oz. goblet glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep and slightly hazy amber orange with a little ruby red. Moderate amount of bubbles. Decent two fingers of off white head that slowly fade into a thin layer. Good amount of lacing sticks to the glass.

Smell: Huge vibrant aroma of citrus and tropical fruits. Big hints of mango, grapefruit, pineapple, and oranges. Hints of honey and a little candied sugar. Also some bready malts in the background. Smells fairly sweet and very citrusy on the nose.

Taste: A very citrus forward and fairly sweet taste. Good taste of mango, oranges, pineapple, grapefruit, and even some honeydew. Also some hints of sugar and a little honey. Some bready caramel malts and earthy hops linger in the background. Lots of fresh citrus although the bitterness is fairly light for such a big citrus forward IPA.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Very creamy and somewhat sticky. Sweet but finishes somewhat dry. Very smooth.

Overall: A very interesting and tasty take on a IPA. Very big fruity taste that achieves a nice balance of sweetness and bitterness.

Big thanks goes out to MBrausen for sending this one down for myself and caSSino to tick (well me to tick...). First beer I've had since my accident on 11/11/11! Reviewed live. Served from growler into a NoDa Brewing snifter. Pours hazy bright orange with a minimal off-white head. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma is comprised of sweet malt, mango, pine, caramel, fruit hop, and pine hop. The flavor is of sweet malt, mango, pine, caramel, fruit, fruit hop, and pine hop. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. This was a great way to start back drinking. The mango is definitely present and makes a nice balanced flavor with the hops. An easy drinker that I suggest all beer lovers try to get on their palate.

Thanks for sharing, Rich.

A: Pours a rather cloudy dark golden apricot with a fuzzy white head.
S: Sweet citrus dominates alongside notes of grassy hops, mint and just a hint of mango.
T: Citrus rind, leafy, and green tasting hops with just a hint of sweet dried mango. I was expecting much more mango, but what is there is nice.
M: Medium-thick body with a greasy, savory, mouthfeel. Lowish carbonation.
O: Not as fantastic as I was hoping for but still a solid beer. I would love to try it from the source someday.

On tap at Town Hall Tap. This beer arrives a hazy orange-red color. The head is half an inch in height, and lingers a while. The aroma is of mango, grapefruit, and oranges. The taste is similar to the aroma, but with some pine resin coming through. The mango characteristic in both the flavor and aroma is subdued enough to not lend a lot to the beer, but strong enough to take away a lot of the great qualities of Masala Mama. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively carbonation, and a velvety texture. Overall, I can quite disappointed with this beer, and will most likely pass on it next time.

Growler

Thanks for opening this growler, Rich!

Slightly hazed golden orange and gold with a thin near-white head. Leaves spots of lacing down the glass.

The aroma is my favorite part of this beer. This is intensely tropical and fruity: lots of grapefruit, orange, and a bit of mango, unsurprisingly.

The flavor is relatively high in bitterness surprisingly after the incredibly sweet and fruity aroma. Amongst the bitterness is tropical fruit character and a bit of sweetness.

Medium mouthfeel with ample carbonation.

A wonderfully aromatic beer and overall a very good IPA.

Growler generously shared by Cam.

Pour is a bit hazy, dark orange with a big white head. Looks good. The nose is precisely two things - mango malt and big bitter hops. One almost needs a reminder of mango to get a picture of it - there is an almost hint of mintyness that is best summarized as that unique mango bite. Smells fantastic and really works with the hops. One of my favorite smelling hoppy beers of many hoppy beers sampled throughout the last year. The taste is really good, but doesn't come around quite as well. Unlike the nose, I feel like the taste doesn't meld together as nicely. Basically, it is only really good. Strong flavors of mango and that mango bite cover the maltiness of Masala Mama and sit distant from the largely pure bitter hops. It winds up not mattering that much, but it does keep the beer from a perfect taste grade. I think this could be a 5.0 with a more tropical hop profile, which would meld the flavors together a touch better. I wanted a juiciness to the hop bite that didn't quite come through. I am being picky though. The mouthfeel is nice on this beer with good carbonation and a good body. I could kill a growler of this all by myself with no issue. This is darn good stuff.

Growler generously provided by DoctorRock. Thanks Andy!

Pours a very cloudy rustic orange. No signs of carbonation from the pour. Just a small quarter inch pf tan head and spotty lacing.

Sweet freaking nectar. Gons of juicy mango thats laced with a refreshing orange after taste.

Taste follws the aroma exactly. This IPA is slightly maltier than I'd typically like, but it works with the huge mango body. Slight dry finish thats very inviting.

Very thick and creamy for an IPA. I bet when its a little more fresh and on tap, more carbonation shines through.

Very enjoyable. I drank the entire growler to myself during game 7 of the world series. Insanely sessionable for as thick as it is.

Thanks again for the rare gem Andy.

Served on tap at the brewery. I was in the right place at the right time.

A - pours an orangish amber color without much of a head at all. Once it dissipates no lacing was left.

S - the nose is rather weak, but what is there is some sweet mango with some citrus hops and bready malts. The more this warms the more the mangos pop.

T - it is called Mango Mama for a reason. Right off the bat I got loads of fresh mango. You can tell real mangos went into this as the fruit was very vibrant and not faux in any sense. On e this moves down I got some bready and caramel malts, with a little bit of toasted malt. On the end I get a lot of grapefruit rind with a little bit of dank, musty pine. The mango and grapefruit are present on the exhale.

M - nice full body that goes down really well.

D - this is a really solid IPA. The mangos work really well with the other flavors in this beer. This takes Masala Mama to a new level. If you can get your hands on it I Know you will be pleasantly rewarded for your troubles.
