Color is a crispy brownish amber with a small cream colored head that sticks around a while and keeps an impressive haze on top the whole glass down to nearly empty. Wow! Smell again is nothing to get excited about, Great Waters brews seem to always have a disappointing nose, with the exception of Shipwreck IPA. This Wild Rice Ale has a little touch of frothy malt grains and wild rice. Taste starts clean and fresh, easy balanced malts and light hops with a very nice wild rice & grainy overlay that really stands out midway and helps with the over all crisp finish. Also has a nice calming herbal touch of hops. Nice subtle brew with good wild rice character and flavor. Feel is close to medium bodied and gains a bit of punch just past the midway point and has a nice crisp finish and some late notes of wild rice sticking late with a touch of herbal grains. A nice finisher, the wild rice seems to linger forever across the palette. A nice drinker as well, would go good with just about anything I imagine - or by itself. I liked it, a pleasant little beer. I would have growlered this one if it weren't for the St. Paul idiots who run the city council. Have to wait another week, again!

On tap at the brewpub...

Murky swamp water yellowish/brown color, head is greenish and sparse. Lace is good however, fine in texture. Not a lot of aroma comes out, but the serving temperature is too cold. The flavor is unusual, a slightly watery Gatorade mixed with a husky nutiness and a pepper sense. Finish leans on lemony with a hint of hop tang. Light body and moderate carbonation. This one is not tuned to my taste buds, but it does make a statement.
