On tap at Howe Sound brewpub, May 2009. Spring seasonal.
Appearance: Very red mahogany, transparent, with creamy uneven 2 finger beige head, receding to ring but leaving impressive lacing.
Aroma: Vinous with malt, winter warmer spices, and treacle.
Taste: Lots of smooth maltiness with nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla, maybe some other spices. Rich vinous flavours, some treacle. Wonderfully well brewed richness. Tastes like a mix of an excellent winter ale and a well aged barley wine.
Mouthfeel: Fairly full bodied, fairly carbonated for the style, but intensely rewarding.
Drinkability: Very moreish. The complexity of this beer, albeit not very dry finishing, is outstanding. This beer is so well made that it is a crying shame to not be available in bottles.
