A lightly hopped medium bodied dark lager. This rich and flavourful beer delivers a creamy head , a clean taste , and hints of toasted chocolate. Made with dark crystal and chocolate malts, German and Polish hops.

A good looking pint of beer. Dark lagers always seem to look like a stout and you prepare yourself for the deep and heavy taste but it isn't. Has a nice smokey flavor and a thin finish. It's missing some malt that would bump up the overall rating IMHO, but it's good for a glass or two..

Howe Sound Brewing 'Loose Cannon' Dark Lager @ 5.5% , served from a 1L pot-stopper bottle purchased for $7.45
A-pour is a dark brown from the bottle to near black in the glass with some crimson shining thru the bottom of the glass , top of the glass has a small off white head leaving a streaky lace along the stein
S-hints of roasted chocolate , Euro hops
T-dark chocolate malts
MF-medium carbonation , medium body , ok finish on the palate
Ov-good beer , another winner from Howe Sound , & another bottle for me to home brew with

16oz Yankee pint at Beer Revolution E-town, during their Howe Sound tap takeover.
This beer appears a clear, dark ruddy cola amber colour, with one anemic finger of tightly foamy, somewhat bubbly pale beige head, which leaves some spectral amoebic lace around the glass as the liquid in front of slowly sinks away.
It smells of lightly roasted caramel malt, pale malt graininess, a lurking oily nuttiness, a soft drupe fruitiness, and floral, earthy hops. The taste is more bready, lightly roasted caramel malt, slight cigar ash notes, a somewhat sour indistinct orchard fruitiness, and tangentially singed earthy, leafy noble hops.
The bubbles are adequate in their basic coverage, the body a decently stocky medium weight, and generally smooth. It finishes off-dry, the restrained roasted sweetness of malt, and lingering fruitiness doing well to offset any pushy bitterness.
I find it a bit hard to believe that I'm not drinking the Nut Brown Ale, but after verification, it seems that a lager can pass for an ale. White not as black and roasted as a schwarzbier, this still has a lot going on for all its dark amber goodness. Apparently only previously available at the brewery, it was thus nice of them to send we beer geeks in Alberta a keg or two.
