20oz pint at the Underground.
This beer appears a clear, dark brassy amber colour, with two fingers of puffy, rocky, and densely foamy ecru head, which leaves a fair swath of layered Middle Eastern script lace around the glass as things devolve into glass half empty territory.
It smells of biscuity, grainy caramel malt, sodden ashes, a fairly crisp, though indistinct citrus essence, and earthy, weedy hops. The taste is more gritty, grainy, and lightly biscuity caramel malt, abetted by some toasted pale malt, wet tobacco, faint orange and lemon citrus notes, and earthy, weedy hops. Simple, but effective.
The carbonation is generally supportive, and little more, the body on the low side of medium weight, and mostly smooth, in a rather plain manner. It finishes barely off-dry, the biscuity, ashen character seemingly having been ceded the reins.
An enjoyable, and apparently drinkable pale ale, if my prematurely empty glass is any indication. Not overly complicated, and by extension, complex, but that's hardly an issue - this was made for sessioning, for the masses, for an extended good time.

1L swinging pop top poured into tulip 16/8/13
A glows a reddish amber and enough clarity to see a few bubbles but I get a long lasting two finger tan head that leaves a few rings of lace, not a bad looking beer
S lots of caramel, slightly nutty, dry cereal, faint citrus, herbal and leafy notes, and maybe some gingerbread
T slightly spicy, a little butterscotch, the herbal notes are stronger, and faint coco's added to the nuts, and some dark bread as it warms, tastes good but I preferred the nose
M silky upon entry and creams up nicely, full for the color, herbal, fruity finish
O I didn't mind this one, a fair bit going on and I had no problems with the liter sized bottle
I'm a little surprised this prairie boy was the first to get to this one, something I'd drink again but I wouldn't go out of my way, good for the style but not a style that excites me enough to travel for it
