Had on tap tonight at the brewery. Came served in a wine glass. It's their Froggy Loggy Lager aged in Pinot Noir barrels. I found this interesting.
A- Clearer golden yellow color. Small 1/2 finger head which dies down alost as quickly as it was there. Left some soapy lacing that slid back into the glass after a short period of struggling to stay afloat.
S- Interesting to say the least. I picked up some semi-sweet underlying malts in this one. But there was a big suprise with some funk going on here. Bigger sour notes and some barnyard smells going on here. It peaked my interest and I sat there mouth watering and sniffing for a couple of minutes. A light vinegar aroma came on the tail end of the nose. Interesting and I love it.
T- This is what blew me away. Big sour kick right off the bat....I mean almost perfect start to this beer. This dies down in the middle of the beer to a light vinegar taste which then kicks into a lighter lger taste. It is such a strange beer and I haven't had anything like it. I can pick up some of the Pinot Noir characteristics in the front end of the beer but then I get semi-sweet maltiness from the lager aspect of the beer. I really like it a lot but there are two distinct parts to this beer.
M- Light mouthfeel to this. Carbonation is good and leaves the beer to glide over the palate easy. Sour notes are left on the tongue when all is said and finished in a sip of this beer. There is a light vinegar (wine) taste in the aftetaste. Good mouthfeel overall.
D- This is a highly drinkable beer if you like sours and well a good intro beer if you want to try to get into sours since it changes midway through the sip. I personally could not get enough and would love to drink much more of it before I don't have the chance anymore.
I was quite suprised with Shoreline for doing something like this. I mean you hear of IPA's and Stouts getting barreled all the time but nothing as simple as a Lager. It pickd up some interesting wine notes from the barrel and soured a little. I hope they continue to do more things like this in the future.
