Restraint has never come easy to us and Lemondrop IPA is proof of that. A massive dose of lemondrop hops during the dry-hop makes this IPA burst with bright citrus aromas and flavors. The clean and balanced malt foundation acts as the perfect springboard for those citrusy notes, making this IPA highly drinkable and refreshing

32oz growler filled at Heinen's in Mentor, Ohio
Growler poured into a tulip. Pours a light golden with nice clarity and has bubbles racing upwards; fluffy eggshell white head that falls leaving great bubbly retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are pretty mild. Lots of fresh bread and crackers. Malts seem to lead the way with some subtle hints of lemon. The flavors are very clean and refreshing, but it's not too flavorful. More hints of lemon along with some grapefruit. Lots of fresh grass. More bread and crackers. Very subtle hints of pine. Solid malt backbone. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is very nice. It's on the lighter side of medium-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's very fluffy, smooth and easy to drink.
This is an alright IPA. Founders definitely pumps out better IPAs, in my opinion. There's nothing wrong with this at all. It's well crafted, but it just doesn't seem to pop or standout at all. It's very clean, crisp and refreshing.

As new hops enter the brewing market, the appeal for the exciting "Lemon Drop" varietal appears to be too much to resist for Founders brewers as a wallop of candied lemon and its herbal complement layer upon a formidable IPA base taste.
Pale gold and with a mild haze, the aura of lemon and candy swirl about the rim. Its frothy white cap foreshadows a creamy malt texture on the initial palate. Herbal and grassy in scent, its taste follows with light breadiness, caramel and honey for a granola-like impression.
With the lemony citrus character developing a sharp and brisk taste of pink grapefruit, orange and lime, a tea-like flavor of sassafras and white tea as the shy sweetness fades and and the nutty, toasty remnants of malt remain. Bitter with fresh shaven pine, grass clippings and a peppery taste of lemongrass and lemon pepper, the hops live long and piquant in aftertaste.
Medium bodied and trending dry, the hop forward IPA casts a definite lemony appeal on the session, and then slowly fades into a prototypical IPA profile by middle palate. Sharp, bitter and yet smooth, Lemon Drop IPA will be a summertime crowd pleaser while resisting the threat of seeming like furniture polish.
